Thankful Thursday | Can you help me?

My hosting company is trying to help me fix the commenting issue some of you are having. If you get the, "Sorry, something went wrong" message when you try to leave a comment, can you take a screenshot and send it to me? That would help them troubleshoot the issue.

THANK YOU!

A tray of cat

I've tried leaving test comments, and I am not getting the error message, so I would be grateful for your help. Also, if you can tell me what device (iPhone, Android, laptop, tablet, desktop) and browser (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) you use, that would help as well.

This week, I am thankful:

that I am not in RN school

The BSN program I am in is not nearly as hard as the RN program at the community college. It does take time, and it does have some tedious assignments, but it does not compare at all to what I went through to get my RN.

I'm grateful the RN education is behind me now!

that "I need to remember this for the NCLEX" isn't a thing anymore

All the way through RN school, I kept feeling like I needed to hang onto every tidbit I learned because it might be on the NCLEX.

NCLEX practice test screenshot

But in my BSN classes, there is no such pressure. I just need to get through each class as a stand-alone item, and there's no big test at the end of this degree. Yay!

that I met a new friend at Fincon

I met lots of new people at Fincon, of course, but on the last day, I happened to sit at a table with a podcaster who has a very, very similar backstory to mine and we immediately bonded over that. I'm so glad we ended up at the same table!

that we got some rain

We had a pretty dry August, so I'm happy we got a little rain the last two days.

rain on mum plant.

that after this week, I'm already halfway through my first BSN class!

These are all 8-week classes, and the end of this week marks the halfway point of class one.

Yay! I'm doing it! I'm managing a new job, a new degree program, and my blog.

Whew.

that I got my schoolwork done ahead of time

Starting today, I work three 12-hour shifts, have one day off, and then work three more 12-hour shifts. So, that's 72 hours of work in 7 days.

Yikes.

Kristen in scrubs.

But thankfully, I was able to get my assignments done before work. That means I've got nothing due for the next 7 days, and I can just focus on work.

I also got about halfway through my big assignment that's due October 8th (because we KNOW I'm not the type of person who enjoys doing that last-minute.)

for whoever invented egg bites

I made a batch yesterday to help me with breakfasts during my shifts, and I just feel so thankful someone came up with this recipe!

egg bites.
egg bites ready to bake

They're pretty quick to make, and they cover me for four breakfasts, which makes them totally worth the little time investment.

All I gotta do on a work morning is microwave them, toast some bread, and grab some fruit. So easy. And no cooking dishes necessary.

(I use the recipe from Once Upon a Chef.)

that I finally got to visit a Winco

We don't have those here, so Katy took me on a field trip to see hers.

I was amazed at some of the prices; like being taken back to the 1990s!

for funny pictures of my girls' cats

I get regular text updates on everyone's cats. 🙂

And College Cat (otherwise known as Crouton):

Doesn't that picture make you want to rub his tummy? 🙂

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. I would be so wiped out after the shifts you have coming up! You're doing so well! This week I am thankful:

*for the rain! We haven't had any rain since mid-August. It has been so crispy.

*that my daughter's walking-into-the-air-conditioner-vent injury isn't as bad as originally thought.

*that our friends will come for a birthday party tomorrow. That the cake for the birthday party is already made.

*that I have safely parented another child to (legal) adulthood. My high school senior turned 18 this week. That I don't have to make a homeschool portfolio for him this year since he's 18. I am still teaching him, so I still have the fun part-- just not the paperwork part.

*that our kittens were fixed this week (unexpected and less-expensive opportunity). They are outdoor cats, and there are enough feral cats around here. Now we can give them a little more freedom. And they seem to be recovering well and just as cuddly as ever. Also, for the kindness of parishioners who helped us with this endeavor.

*that my friend was relatively uninjured after being in an accident on the interstate with an intoxicated driver. This is the 2nd car accident for her in a month---and neither was her fault. No more, please.

*that my college boys care. For me. For those around them. For each other.

    1. @Jody S., Well done parenting Jody. Your last comment is just about the best you can hope for when you're holding your newborn and dreaming of their future. Thank you for sending out two more good people help make the world better, kinder again. <3

    2. @Jody S.,
Thank goodness for your friend being relatively unscathed from the auto accidents. A friend of mine endured 3 auto accidents in a period of about 6 months, none of which were her fault (she drives home from work in a very congested and somewhat confusing area with lots of turn lanes, lanes entering and exiting, etc. You need to stay very alert through this area, and the folks who hit her car were not doing so. I don't know if any of them were impaired).

  2. I’ve really had to think hard this week to find my Thankfuls. Not because it has been a bad week, it’s just been a meh week. But these are the type of weeks where I need to find the good to celebrate

    - I had a 1:1 with my line manager that was a lovely half hour catch up. As our team all work remotely, it is great to have scheduled time to chat about stuff other than work. We did briefly discuss work in the last 3 or 4 minutes though.

    - being a 2-car household. My husband’s car had to go in for a check-up as he had two warning alerts coming up every time he started his car. It was easy for me to pick him up and then drop him back to get the car from the garage that he uses.

    - Wednesday night Crochet & Craft group. I went last night and had a lovely time just chatting with different people. I took a project with me but as my arthritic thumbs were hurting I didn’t do any of it. Lovely to be able to just chill for a couple of hours.

    - I had two health screenings came back clear and my husband had a Well Man check-up that went well.

    - our two fur-babies who can drive us potty with their louds demands but at the end of the day they curl up on the bed with us purring their heads off.

    - And as always family and friends and I’m going to add in colleagues, their love and support is never unappreciated

I am always surprised at how many I manage to find once I sit down and think about it.

  3. thankful for cat photos and that you still blog. that my son is adjusting slowly to his new school. he has 3 new friends already. that hubby is feeling ok after a rough start to the year. that my vertigo is getting better.

    1. @Anita Isaac, Vertigo! I know there are a gazillion reasons for vertigo, but I *think* that I've found out a big contributor/cause of mine--- low iron. I had no idea that low iron could contribute to the dizziness, but I have definitely noticed that when I focus on boosting my iron, I am less likely to have vertigo.

    2. @Jody S., @Anita Isaac, my vertigo is due to allergies. If there is too much fluid in my ears, it can knock me out! I make sure to have decongestant in the house and with me when I travel. Feel Better.

  4. 1-my car inspection and an optional repair was less than $90
2-a friend I had not spent much time with lately was also waiting so we got to visit during the repair
3- plenty of food in house/freezer
4-my fall lettuce seeds are sprouting
5-my husband and I are navigating a VERY difficult season with his mother's declining health with our noses above water (barely but well)

  5. I'm thankful :
    * I went to parent teacher conferences for two kids. One - my daughter's special Ed person- was able to give me insight in how she's doing, so I have good info for her next doctor's appt. And it turns out my daughter loves sorting and stocking their supplies and transfers the laundry there on her own initiative. I need to put her to work at hone!
*I cleared something up with one teacher - he said something to my kid at the beginning of the year that really made me mad. However, I waited until now to ask for his side, as I figured I didn't know the whole story. Teacher had been given wrong information by someone else, so all is forgiven.
*A counselor was in, so I could straighten out a schedule issue. And I saw that his homeschool classes from the spring are finally in his transcript, so he can graduate on time.
    * That a fall I had on the weekend, while dramatic and bloody didn't break any bones and just left me sore. It could have been so much worse. And my teen handled helping me well- he's sort of squeamish, so I'm proud he came to my aid. Then he handled getting his siblings lunch and rides as needed.
    * I'm not loving the hot dry weather were having, but thankful the nights are cool. We can cool off overnight and nor put the air on.

    1. @mbmom11, Serious falls are awful even if you don't get really injured, what with that shaky feeling that follows. So glad you're okay, that your family is helping you, and that school has had some bright spots so far this year.

    2. @mbmom11, THANK YOU for being a parent who supports both her children AND their teachers! I think many frustrations between school and home result from lack of communication or miscommunication. By staying connected to the school with an open and problem-solving mentality, you have formed a partnership with the school that benefits you at home, the teachers, and, the reason that we're all here--the kids!! I hope you all continue to have a productive school year with lots of growth.

  6. In the midst of some big unpleasant things, there are always smaller things to be thankful for . . .

--For cooler nights and more darkness. I sleep so much better when it's not 85 degrees and light out at 8:30 p.m. Yes, that is when I want to go to bed. 🙂

--For my family. My kids can for sure drive me crazy on a daily basis, but they're all navigating life pretty well right now. I always try to appreciate times when they need less direct steering by me and my husband.

--That my husband was able to delay leaving his long drive yesterday until after I went to the daily Mass in the next village over. I really wanted to get there, but all my children were home, so he stayed home until I got back so I could go.

--For yesterday's homily. It was, appropriately for this comment, about gratitude. 🙂

--For our priest. He is a gifted speaker, a personable guy, and a very deep thinker. He also never preaches on current events, which I really appreciate. I go to church for something more important than politics. I am very grateful he knows what's important and focuses on that.

--For the Mass. I'm a cradle Catholic and also a big lover of routine, so everything about the ritual is comforting to me. Sometimes challenging, too, as it should be, but I always leave Mass feeling better.

  7. Thanks as usual for all the cat photos, Kristen. If I may be pardoned for saying so, however, Crouton may have to change his name to Triple Batch of Bread!

Here, I'm thankful for Grad School BFF's visit (she's arriving later this morning and will stay through Monday morning). I'm also thankful that our current stretch of excellent weather is predicted to continue through her visit--even though we too could use some more rain at this point.

And I'm thankful for another awesome predawn show in the heavens. Jupiter, the crescent moon, and Venus have all been swapping places in the eastern sky--and the bright star Regulus is supposed to get into the act tomorrow morning.

    1. @A. Marie,
I saw the crescent moon and (I would assume) Venus in the sky this morning! The sun was just starting to rise, so the sky was shades of pink and peach. It was beautiful!

    2. @A. Marie, I probably missed it but how is Betty? I was super concerned she too had a nasopharynx polyp. Mine did, one of three health issues he had, none of which could be treated with a high percentage of curing the issue.

  8. 1. I think I said this last week, but my iron infusion kicked in and I'm still very grateful! I feel normal again, and even though I've been working a ton, I can handle it. Yay!

    2. My brand new little nephew has arrived safely, his mom is recovering as she should, and the new little family has a ton of support (which is great because due to my volume of work, I can't provide much.)

    3. I overheard a funny conversation on the subway this morning and texted my best and oldest friend about it; she immediately replied. Nice to have a friend who's sympatico 🙂

    4. I had a really tough weeks a few weeks at work. But then, this week, I got a ton of compliments. It was SO NICE and really lifted my spirits that people bothered to tell me that they thought I was doing a good job 🙂

    5. My little baby turned four! It's hard to believe. I'm so, so grateful that we have her.

  9. Just a quick comment from me and my son to say “we demand more cats!” Apparently, you’ve been holding out on us! 😉

  10. I'm thankful:
    - that I got to visit with our daughter and grandson twice already this week. Our son-in-law is out of town on business travel, so I've been going over in the evenings to help out. Single parenting of an 18-month-old can be a challenge.
    - that our daughter's in-laws are also helping out while she's single parenting.
    - that our son, daughter, and grandson are coming over for dinner this evening. I love having them for family dinners, even though I have to cook!
    - for the small amount of rain we got yesterday.
    - that my husband was feeling a little better this morning. It's been a really rough couple of weeks for him. We're hopeful that part of his issues are due to side effects from a new medication that he has now stop taking.

  11. I learned a long time ago that this blog does not allow emoticons. That will get you an error message and the comment won't go through. Delete the emoticon and no problem. If you make an emoticon the old fashioned way : - ) without the spaces, it will come up. 🙂

  12. I don’t get the error message, but my screen will sometimes refresh when I’m trying to comment. There will be a lag when I’m trying to type, then the screen will suddenly go white and refresh everything, deleting anything I was in the middle of typing. I feel it might be connected to certain ads because it is random and not affecting anything else I’m viewing or working on and seems specific to this website. Unfortunately, I can’t get a screenshot due to the refresh. I’m on an iPad in Safari.

    1. @JenRR, I've gotten random refreshing as well, in the past few days. Not only does it delete my comment it also brings back the annoying ad that sits over the text.

This only happens on my iPhone 15 that runs iOS 18.2, no matter the browser (usually DuckDuckGo, occasionally Safari or Firefox); never my Mac laptop, again no matter the browser.

    2. @JenRR,
Same action & result for me (have had multiple times in previous 3? months). I'll be typing my comment & all of a sudden it just disappears. I have Samsung Android phone. Most recent time was 2-3 weeks ago when @JD commented had happened.

    3. @WilliamB and @Regina, Do you both also get the lag before this happens? I’ve learned to do a lot of copy and pasting to save myself the headache of rewriting everything.

    4. @JenRR, Me as well on an iPad in Safari. I sometimes get a colored border around the entire screen, the contents of the screen momentarily shrink, and then everything refreshes.

    5. I didn’t realize this was happening to a lot of other people. I guess the good thing is that I know it’s not just my iPad or internet connection.

  13. Beautiful cats all round! Yes, I would love to rub Crouton's tummy!

This week I am thankful for:

    1. Some beautiful swims in the sea, including two under a double rainbow.

    2. Getting more energetic. Usually after going to the gym I feel tired, but I had enough energy to go running the other evening and swimming.

    3. Cleaning out my fridge last week - this is a repeat thankful, but I am SO glad it's done. It took forever thanks to a hunk of ice at the back and it was very frustrating, but now it's done.

    4. Another repeat thankful - fixing the bank issue which had dragged out for weeks.

    5. Being able to be there for my friend, who has lost some family members. I called her yesterday and let her talk for a while. I'm thankful I had the time.

  14. Love the cat photos. While I miss my old grumpy calico cat and the fat tuxedo cat, these pictures cheer me.

    1. I was privileged to see one morning, when the moon was full, the bright, white moon with "the man" showing in it clearly in the early morning, sunlit blue sky. And just underneath the moon, looking as if they were only a few feet apart, a brightly shining rocket going by the moon. It almost looked unreal.

    2. I'm grateful that daughter #2 returned safely from her fun trip to Iceland, had a safe but quick trip to Boston and back for work as soon as she returned from Iceland, then turned around and safely arrived in Norway for two weeks for work, although the airline destroyed one of her suitcases. I'm grateful that she had vacuum-packed every outfit, so nothing was lost out of her suitcase. I'm grateful that she enjoys her visits to Norway, which is good, since she'll be there over her birthday.

    3. I'm grateful for the cooler nights. The temperatures are inching back up at night, but it's almost autumn, not the start of summer, so I know they will eventually go back down and stay lower for a while. Ahhhh.

    4. I'm grateful for the hummingbirds in my yard. I don't get a lot, but they are a joy to watch. Some will leave next month, but some stay through North Florida's winters.

    5. I am grateful that I think I have my Social Security figured out. I currently get survivor's benefits, but when I turn 70, I have to choose either that or my own benefits. After getting conflicting answers on the phone, I went in person and was given a future benefits chart (which was no longer available online once I started drawing survivor's benefit) and it's now clear what I should do.

  15. * For the health, finances and family support that allows me to pursue my goal of visiting all seven continents. Tomorrow I leave for South Africa. I will have only Asia and Oceania to achieve - knock on Wood.

  16. I also feel like it's been a meh week also for me personally, but not for others in the family. But there is always something to be thankful for, so here goes:

Thankful the granddaughter's fall off her scooter wasn't as bad as it could have been. Thankfully her parents make her wear a helmet. But no wrist or knee guards and that's where she broke her arm. And thankful it was her non-writing arm. And she is thankful that the cast will come off right before her birthday -- we hope.

Thankful that we had a great weekend with cousins celebrating a cousin getting married. He has been with this woman for 24 years, and with us only getting together for sad occassions, he wanted something to celebrate. It was really wonderful and relaxed and they are so happy together. And we all decided to get together every year to celebrate and not morn something. And thankful that all the travelers made it home safely.

Lastly, I am thankful that I have made it to 34 years at my employer next week. And that I have 207 days left -- including weekends -- before retirement (not that I'm counting LOL). I am thankful that I made it thru some serious issues in my tenure, and came back even stronger. I will celebrate while I am on vacation!!!

  17. Assorted miracles or organization and engineering afforded by modern civilizations.

    Hot running water.
    Trash pick up.
Public libraries (i.e., free lending libraries).
    Solid public education.
The miracles of modern medicine, hospitals, and drug supplies.

These are all worth fighting to keep. They're far more fragile than most realize.

  18. 1) Thankful that I got a good night of sleep last night, especially as i've been traveling a lot for work & the previous two nights were terrible. I did have a 5:30 am first meeting today, but it was offset by having slept really well last night. Hurrah!
    2) That after next week's trip to London, I'm done with work travel until January. Double, in fact, triple Hurrah!
    3) That I get to see DS18 this weekend for family college weekend, as well as my BFF & her daughters, who live nearby.
    4) That DH & I make a special effort to try to connect in the evening before dinner. It's our only real time together, given work, commute, etc, and this time is so important.
    5) That I got takeout last night, and we can afford it. While not ideal, I had flown back from an overnight work trip, needed to prioritize other things, & just didn't have time to make dinner. I'm grateful that my income allows for splurges, when things are tricky to manage.

  19. I'm thankful for my wonderful city senior citizen center. I attend at least 2 exercise classes there each week. It's allowed me to stay active. I think part of the key to aging well is to keep moving. I have seen too many relatives and friends who sit retirement and don't go much. It's been bad for them in so many ways. And I've made friends there -- the social aspect is as important as the exercise.

I'm thankful to have enough to eat. Everyday I see stories on how challenging the economy has become for so many people. We support local food banks and try to help people. One TV station in Little Rock has a huge cereal drive ever year and the generosity of Arkansas always amazes me. I used to help run the program at my office each year and it was fun to do.

  20. I didn't know that WinCo stores are west coast states & Texas. Wow! Those are some really cheap prices! Those prices are 1/3-1/4 of store prices.

Thankful for the return of 80s & Sunshine! Thankful for predicted mid-upper 70s next week & 80s following week. Fact--last year Michigan had warm weather all the way to Halloween. Oct 31, 2024 the temp was 70* high then dropping to 60* by 8pm. Nov 21 was high 32* & snow. I'm not ready for the cold.
Thankful Sam's Club has $6 Pumpkin Pie back in stock. 🙂
Thankful teen helped put eavestrougth back up after I emptied the rain barrels & covered for winter.
Thankful that teen picking up extra shifts at job. Teen college schedule flexible enough where can help out if needed.
    Thankful for rescue dogs----always. 🙂
Thankful my dad is feeling good & getting more strength/ability each week. That he stops when he gets tired & rests.
Thankful my dad & Aunt (his sister) got to spend a few days together. Even though my dad chauffeured around to antique stores, he was glad to help out.
Thankful for my improving health. The warmer weather helps. 🙂 More good/better days with not good days becoming less frequent. Unfortunately I had a really bad relapse for few days, but I managed. I hope this isn't a precursor for winter.
Thankful for Kristen & her blog where we can all share & learn from each other.

    Have a great day! 🙂

  21. Where I live we don’t have an Aldi though I am holding out hope the company will continue to make its way north! We do have Winco though-glad your frugal self got to experience one!
Good luck on two work weeks in one-I’ve been there many times - you’ve got this!

  22. AS Kristin at Going Country said, in the midst of some big unpleasant things, there are always smaller things to be thankful for . (Thank you Kristin. I needed to hear that!) I haven't posted thankfuls in the last couple of weeks because my big unpleasant thing was that the bigwigs told me not to substitute teach anymore. Full details were shared on the NCA blog, but in a nutshell, a special ed kid slugged me pretty hard in the chest (after hitting me several times on the arms and legs), and as a knee-jerk reaction, I reached out a gave him a little swat (like a light love tap) on the bottom as I told him not to do that anymore. I barely touched him (I clap my hands with more force) and he was still laughing as he ran away. However, they say I "put my hands on him" and are treating me like an axe murderer. I was fired from subbing in the entire school district. No 2nd chance. (Even though they said I'm "highly commended" by all the campus administrators and have had a stellar career for them. Go figure!) I'm very depressed. But I am thankful that I'm slowly but surely getting over it. A man at my church said he'd help me if I needed $ help (I don't, but his offer made me feel very loved...), and my teacher friends have been supportive. (One said while subbing in the same district, she raised her voice to a 7th-grade boy who talked very dirty to her and wouldn't stop his tirade, and they canned her for raising her voice to him.) I'm adjusting to my new status going back down from middle class to somewhat lower income, where I've been the last several years.
--Also thankful for my Social Security check and private pensions and job at the store.
--That I got a Covid shot.
--That Walgreens took back the school spirit T-shirts I'd bought but haven't worn, despite not being able to find the cash register receipt, and gave me a gift card for the full amount. Luckily, I hadn't worn them and they still had the tags on them.
--Found a volunteer pecan tree growing right where I need another tree. It's right by where the red oak died and I really miss the shade. So nice of the squirrel to bury a pecan there. Another example of God providing what you need before you know you need it.
-- My dog Snuggles got out the other day through the front door, crossed the street and peed on the neighbor's front yard shrubs, but wasn't gone 5 minutes before he came back and happily went into the house for me. He got a nice big bone for his coming back. Guess he has me well trained, LOL! Also thankful that the other neighbor's dog barked at him; maybe she was telling him to go home.

    1. @Fru-gal Lisa,
I'm so sorry you lost your sub-teaching job. As one who works in a field that usually has little grace for such occurrences, I feel your pain. I pray that God will abundantly supply all of your needs and encourage your heart.

    2. @Fru-gal Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear about your employment problem. I hope you can figure out some way to replace the lost income.

  23. 1) I am thankful for my job even when it gets frustrating. It pays well so I don't have to have roommates AND I can pay all of my bills every month.
    2) I'm thankful that I retire in 1 year 5 months 9 days (not that I'm counting or anything!!)
    3) very thankful for the management at my manufactured home park. They keep an eye on my house, and do lots of my yardwork (I pay them for the mowing, but they do the rest out of the goodness of their hearts)

  24. Thankful Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham acted quickly to ensure Covid vaccines were available to everyone without exception and without the need for a doctor’s prescription.

Thankful the pharmacies immediately started offering vaccines on either a walk-in or an online appointment basis.

Thankful the Governor has made New Mexico the first state to offer free childcare across the board regardless of income to all parents (paid for out of oil revenues). Such a help for young families.

Thankful overnight temperatures have dropped into the 50s and daytime highs into the mid-80s at most. This was a really hot summer. Highs persistently over 100 and overnight temperatures in the 80s.

Thankful all of my annual medical/dental/eye appointments ended with the doctor saying “Come back in a year.”

  25. This week I am thankful:
    • For a weekend trip with my husband. We went someplace new to both of us and had a lovely time exploring together.
    • My parents were able to stay at our house while we were gone. Having someone to watch my son and our dogs while we are away makes life so much easier.
    • My son is enjoying high school!
    • Our CSA is still going strong – we’ve had so many delicious veggies this summer that have led to some fun meals.
    • For our dogs, they really make our house feel complete.
    • For a beautiful end to summer. Fall is creeping in (yay!) but these last summer days have been beautiful.

  26. We are so close to the start of fall! I celebrate the cooler mornings, ps coffee, falling leaves and HS football.
I hosted our small community to figure out what to safely do to protect ourselves from prowlers. The asst da, sheriff and a home security team spoke.
A great apple harvest. Grapes are next. Olives after that.
The fall calves frolicking in the morning sun.

  27. I really like the cats. They're so fun to look at!

This week, I am thankful ...
~ For my God (Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness) who always love me no matter what, is faithful, and has never leave me or forsake me.
~ For a loving and adventurous husband; For our 3 healthy, beautiful and unique girls; For my sacrificial and fearless mom.
    ~ For extended family.
~ For my kind and giving friend. She's an older lady who feels like a mom to me.
~ For our church who is warm, welcoming and so generous.
    ~ For our safe neighborhood.
    ~ For our suburb community.
~ For the library who provides lots of services to us. It's one of our favorite and most visited places we go to for fun.
~ For my girls' school who's stuff members invest in and do so much of their students.
~ For our many blessings and provisions. Thank you God!
~ For good health. That's something to always be thankful for and to not neglect.

  28. This week, I am particularly thankful for:
    - Free presentations at our library. Participants learn so much and strengthen our community ties.
    - Husband had a safe trip.
    - Neighbors. Generous in every way.
    - That a gas line break in the neighborhood was addressed quickly.
    - Our dog who brings joy to everyone she meets.

  29. This week I am thankful . . .

-that our oldest gets himself ready and out the door without any assistance from us. His school starts at a reasonable time, but the long bus ride means that he leaves the house almost two hours before school starts. This kid is a shining star when it comes to routines, so I make sure his lunch is in the fridge where he can find it and rest easy in the morning, listening for the click of the door when he leaves.

-for several days of deep thinking and reading. I am not teaching this quarter, which means I am doing my absolute favorite thing about an academia career, sitting with books and archival sources and thinking through what they mean. I'm working on three different pieces simultaneously, which is very normal for scholars. You edit the piece on which you have feedback while you are writing the first draft of the new piece while you think through the early ideas on which you will base your next piece. It is chaotic and difficult, but when it comes together it is like angels singing.

-for a break in the rain today. I too was glad to see rain for a couple of days. Not only is the rain needed, I enjoy the coziness of a grey day. But after a few days I am tired of everything being wet. Here is the sun to warm our faces and light up a brilliant blue sky!

  30. I'm glad I'm not the only one getting the error message. I've gotten it both on my android phone and my Dell desktop, on Chrome and Edge.

Thankful for a fun weekend, for my cats, and my family!

  31. Kristen, I know you like your work all at one end so you can have a series of days off, but the concept of three 12s nearly back to back makes my eyes cross. Thankful you are still in orientation and that staffing reflects that (?).
I am thankful that I got a full night of rest without knee pain on Tuesday night. I did not sleep so well last night. I did see the ortho Dr. this morning and received a steroid shot. I also received an excuse not to work until Monday night. It makes it hard on our staff and I do feel remorse about that.
My friends with a passel of children and esp. several of helpful stage have offered to help me fall clean and winterize. The concept has lightened my spirit immensely. I am especially enamored with the littles who are not afraid to come up to me at church meeting and visit about their concerns.
I am thankful for the rain we are getting today. So far, there is not much, but every drop is appreciated. Especially since it has been days since I've watered anything.
I am thankful that Miss Molly seems to be having a good day. I did enjoy the cat pictures. I agree w A. Marie, that Crouton should be Bread Loaf. Pets round out our lives so much!

    1. Oh, this schedule was NOT my doing. I have to work whatever shifts my preceptor is working. Ha. Soo, that's how I'm working three twelves and three twelves, with one day off in between.

  32. I love the cat pictures! Due to allergies, we've always had rabbits instead of cats and dogs. My daughter sends me her rabbit pictures.

  33. Crouton is the absolute best name for that lovely orange boy. So fluffy!

    Today I'm thankful:

--That my first A&P 2 lab exam is over. Woof. I'm sure I missed at least six out of twenty-five. But on the bright side, I shouldn't have to look at a sheep heart ever again, and the professor said because the website was all wonky for Quiz 1, that everyone is getting an A on that. So there's that.

--That it seems to be easier to make friends at school than I thought it would be. A fellow classmate (we both had A&P 1 together) sat down with me at the school cafe today and told me she likes my company. That was really sweet of her.

--That I was not run over the car that decided to make a risky left turn while I was trying to cross. There's no lights at this intersection, but NORMALLY nobody would risk a left turn with traffic coming fast both ways in the main street. Not this car! Luckily my bike has good brakes and I had good reflexes, so the driver and I parted with no harm done. To be fair, I should have waited until all the traffic was cleared--which is tough in the early morning commute. But all is well.

--For the free tea selection at school. They have all the Stash fall flavors, and they're delightful. I also appreciate that they have decaf and herbal options (and just plain tea, for us non-coffee drinkers!).

  34. Thankful for Charlie. Thankful for a dear friend who unfortunately has received death threats related to her elected position and volunteer work. Thankful for my minister who tells it like it is. Thankful for my adult child who is wise beyond his years. And thankful for my DH who gets me (we all need someone to get us!).

  35. I have not seen any misbehaving ads, but wanted to tell you the water bottle you bought at the bins costs $27 at my local hardware store. I was waiting at the paint counter and realized the display nearby had your bottle in it!

  36. Can you explain the Winco pricing a little more. On the tuna the bottom left hand corner says first 4 additional 88cents.
So does the .28/can price not kick in until the fifth can? Or am I missing something obvious?
The cereal has a similar pricing situation. It seems confusing.
