Grocery spending and menu

If you remember, last week I spent a bunch of money at Costco, and so I was trying to do a bare bones-ish week of grocery shopping. I wasn't as successful as I'd hoped, so I gave it another shot this week. I spent:

$7.38 on milk at the local grocery store
$46.91 at Weis
for a total of
$54.29.

I budget $100 a week(although I always try to get it closer to $80). I was trying to make up for being $100 over budget, and last week I spent $47.65(a little over $50 under budget) and this week I spent $54.29, which is almost $50 under budget.

So, this is good! I'm pretty much entirely back on track now. I think from now on when I manage to spend less than $100 on groceries, I'll put the extra money into an ING account, and then it'll be happily sitting there when I need to make a Costco trip.

Ok! Now for the menu:

Saturday

  • Seafood Subs
  • grapes

Sunday

  • Pancakes
  • Orange Juice

Monday

  • Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Shrimp
  • potato cubes
  • green salad

Tuesday

  • Ham and Cheese Panini
  • grapes(we've been having grapes a lot, I know! I keep finding them for $.99 a pound!)

Wednesday

  • We're having a misc. use-up-stuff-in-the-pantry night
  • and we're having carrot sticks and apple slices with that

Thursday

  • Chicken Fajitas
  • fruit salad

Friday

  • Deep Dish Pizza

  1. You are such a great shopper. I went to Whole Foods last night to buy my Gluten-Free stuff, remember I just found out that I'm allergic to wheat, and it is terribly expensive! I bought 3 small bags of food, mostly flour, baking mixes, crackers, cookies and the like, and it was $98!! Holy cow. I took your advice and started looking at Gluten-Free blogs. I still have to go to the market tomorrow for our family/weekly shopping. Sheesh!!

  2. Wow... What great inspiration. We've gotten our grocery spending back down to around $120 a week, but I thought $100/week was long past as undoable... Nice to know it still CAN be done (though I'm not holding my breath that we'll hit that mark any time soon!) Way to go!

  3. Dana, I think regular flour has gotten awfully expensive lately...I would have a heart-attack if I had to go gluten-free! lol

    Heidi, thanks for the link!

  4. It's actually been so long since I've gotten to really sing in church, so it wasn't that weird. It felt great to be back at PEP:) And I love your blog! I've definitely got the frugal gene, but I have already gotten some great ideas from your blog
