WIS, WWA | Happy 17th birthday, blog!

July 4th marks the birthday of my country (1776) but also my blog (2008). So, The Frugal Girl is 17 today.

Kristen in 2008.

me back in 2008!

I cannot believe I have been typing here for almost two decades. Isn’t that wild??

I have been doing this for so long, it feels like breathing: both natural and life-giving.

How would I even live a life without blogging? It would feel almost as impossible as living without breathing, and it is just part of the natural flow of my days.

2018 me would be VERY surprised to see 2025 me!

I know I say this so often, but my goodness, am I ever thankful for my blog and for all of you dear people who pop into my internet home each day. Happy birthday to this wonderful community!

What I Spent

I spent:

  • $30 on a Hungry Harvest box
  • $106 at Aldi
  • $8.50 at Safeway

So, $144.50

What We Ate

Saturday

I tried the Aldi chickpea pasta (which I mentioned yesterday, in an unfavoring light.)  Bleah.

On the upside, I did use up the last of a jar of marinara sauce in the process, so yay me.

Sunday

A tuna melt, because a $0.90 can of tuna makes for very affordable protein (26 grams in a can!) Plus, the slice of cheese adds a little more protein.

Watermelon on the side because I might as well take advantage of the seasonal eating that this diabolical weather brings (you may have already noticed but….I am decidedly not a summer girl.)

Monday

Roasted sweet potatoes, kale salad, and sauteed tilapia.

Tuesday

A ham sandwich, since I realized it can offer a solid 30-ish grams of protein.

ham sandwich.

Wednesday

Chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and kale salad.

chicken dinner plate.

Thursday

Umm…whole wheat blueberry pancakes. And some cantaloupe. Because that is very easy after a long hospital shift.

blueberry pancakes.

Friday

I’m in the midst of a three-day set of 12-hour shifts, so we know it’s not gonna be anything fancy. I feel a ham sandwich calling my name. 😉

I’m in the middle of three consecutive work shifts, so I am decidedly NOT going out to watch fireworks tonight. I am going home, eating a quick meal, showering, and going to bed, because Saturday’s work alarm goes off at 5:00.

But if you have more fun plans than me for the fourth…enjoy the fireworks!

What did you have for dinner this week?

Hi Kristen, Congratulations on 17 years, you have me beat by 2 years. I'm surprised I didn't come across you early being from New England and now living in Maine. I found you over on Benable.

Kristen, Iโ€™ve also tried the chickpea pasta from Aldi. Iโ€™m not picky, and I hate food wasteโ€ฆ however I threw it out. Blech!

Hahaha, "diabolical" is the perfect way to describe those hot days of summer. My least favorite season also - those of us in the club must stick together!! :) The summer lovers are always trying to push their beliefs on others. Also, yum (!!) to that tuna melt, it looks so good. I'm gonna have to make one soon.
