Every Monday, I answer a few of the questions that my readers send me. If you have a question you’d like me to answer in a future Q&A post, just leave me a comment here or email me (thefrugalgirl [at] gmail [dot] com) and put Q&A in the subject line. I look forward to hearing from you!
So, you guys know that normally when I do reviews for BlogHer, they require that I publish the post on a separate review page (any posts that I’m paid to do have had to appear over there).
Well, now they’re going to be changing that for most of the review programs, and I wanted to get your thoughts on that. Are you guys ok with seeing my paid BlogHer review/giveaway posts here on the main page?
Nothing else would change about them.
-I’ll still fully disclose that I was paid to do the review.
-the reviews won’t replace the daily posts here.
-review posts will still be very occasional.
-I’ll never agree to review a product I can’t support (I skip a lot of the programs that come down the pike for that very reason).
-I’ll never give a positive review just because I was paid to do the work of reviewing and running a giveaway.
The upside of posting the reviews here is that it would be much simpler for you guys to enter the giveaways that always accompany BlogHer reviews, and it would be simpler for me to have everything in one place as well.
The downside is that those of you who aren’t at all interested in reviews/giveaways will now see them on my main page (of course, you’re never under any obligation to read them or enter!).
I think that I’d like to opt-in for this in order to simplify things for you and for me, but I just want to make sure that you all are ok with it before I check the “yes” box.
So that I can have some easily quantifiable results, here’s a poll (I’m sorry that it looks kind of wonky…I tried it another way and it looked even worse, so we’re going to have to stick with this. I could get a better poll by paying, but of course, I’d prefer not to do that, being that I’m frugal and all. )
And since you can’t leave comments on the poll, I’m definitely interested in hearing what you’ve got to say (especially if you’re an “other” on the poll!). Though I’m leaning towards opting in, I’m not dead-set on that, and I’m open to hearing other opinions.
I’ve been thinking about grilling and other outdoor cooking ideas. As temps go up I want to keep my house as cool as possible. Other than burgers, hot dogs, chicken, steak. What out of the box ideas do you have for grilling or no cook summer meals? I’m just not feeling like cooking these hot days.
Last year a I posted links to a few of my favorite hot-weather recipes, including grilled pizza, which is a nice change from grilled meat.
Main dish salads are another thing I like to make for dinner in the summer…we eat pasta salads or green salads with heartier add-ins like chicken, steak, shrimp, cheese, avocado, nuts, and so on.
Fajitas are another yummy grilled summer meal, and I’ve got a recipe for those coming soon.
Sandwiches always seem like good summer fare to me as well…wraps don’t need to be cooked, and though paninis do get grilled on the stove, they don’t produce tons of heat.
I also think summer is a great time to serve cold side dishes. We eat a lot of raw fruit and vegetables with our dinners in the summer (fruit salad, cucumber slices, tomato slices, carrot sticks, cherries, watermelon wedges, sliced peaches). Raw produce is super easy and fast to prepare, and having several cold sides makes the whole meal seem cooler.
Readers, what cool summer meal suggestions do you have for Karyn? And don’t forget to weigh in on my BlogHer review question!
