I was all excited to clean out my fridge this week because I thought the only thing I’d have to throw out was a little bit of grilled chicken. Then I remembered that I should look in my vegetable drawer. Sigh. I found half a cucumber that was turning to liquid and some green beans that were far past their prime. Still, I’m pretty pleased…this is n o t h i n g compared to the food-in-the-trash fridge cleaning fest that I used to have monthly(or whenever I started to run out of leftover containers!). And of course, the only thing I had to actually throw in the trash was the chicken…the beans and cucumber are now continuing the decomposition process in my compost bin.
Another good thing about cleaning my fridge is that going through the veggie drawer reminded me that I had several(good)cucumbers and some green beans to use. I steamed the green beans and cut up the cucumbers(we eat them raw with salt. On second thought, why did I need to say that we eat them raw? Seriously, who eats cooked cucumbers???), and we ate most of them for dinner tonight. And so, as of this moment, there’s nothing in my vegetable drawer that is about to grow hair on it or turn to mush.
I’m really hoping to have absolutely no waste to take a picture of next week. That has never happened so far, except on weeks where I skipped fridge cleaning altogether. I’ve come so close the last two weeks, though, I think it could happen(especially because I have no plans to buy cilantro this week!).
