Every week, I post a picture of the food that has gone bad over the last seven days. Why do I do this? Because in March of 2008, I finally got fed up with the amount of food I was wasting, and I thought that showing my waste to other people would motivate me to use up my food instead of wasting it. Because this often embarrassing practice was so helpful for me, I invited other bloggers to join me in posting their food waste photos, and Food Waste Friday was born. If you’re not a blogger but still want some food waste accountability, feel free to participate by leaving a comment.
I am currently on a mission to organize and declutter my house from top to bottom before we start school again in the fall. I tackled my kitchen last Friday, and after I decluttered my cupboards, I had so much extra room (yay!), I decided I could keep our breadstuffs in the empty space, instead of on the counter.
I’m not used to this, though, and it turned out to be a bad idea. Out of sight=out of mind, and I completely forgot about the heel of this Blueberry Oatmeal Bread loaf.
If it was just dried out, that would have been ok, but as quick breads are prone to do, this piece had gotten slimy and stinky.
Happily, nothing in my fridge has gone bad, though, so this heel is all that was wasted this week.
Edit: I also found a few slices of lunch meat in the fridge that were too old to make me feel comfy. Drat.
