Every week, I post a picture of the food that has gone bad over the last seven days. Why do I do this? Because in March of 2008, I finally got fed up with the amount of food I was wasting, and I thought that showing my waste to other people would motivate me to use up my food instead of wasting it. Because this often embarrassing practice was so helpful for me, I invited other bloggers to join me in posting their food waste photos, and Food Waste Friday was born. If you’re not a blogger but still want some food waste accountability, feel free to participate by leaving a comment.
And I feel certain there are a few other things I wasted as well, but I haven’t cleaned out the fridge yet. I’m just going to publish this, though, because I know there are some FWF participants that need to hurry and link up before they leave for work (cough*The Mrs * cough).
So, I’ll be back in a bit with my own photo, but for now, here’s the linky!
Edit: I’m back! With a photo!
The bratwurst on the left is leftover from a cookout. We had several bratwurst left and all but this one got eaten. I’m annoyed with myself for letting this go bad because bratwurst aren’t exactly the cheapest food in the world.
And then we (ok, I) have a lemon which is sporting some mold. I should have just bought a lemon or two for the recipe I was making instead of the bag, but of course, hindsight is always 20/20.
For some reason, my fridge is not as empty as it usually is a week after I go shopping, and so I’m going to need to stay on my toes to keep from having a dreadful food waste photo next week.
Must hurry and eat many vegetables.
