Because credit is due where credit is due!
1. Mr. FG cut our internet bill in half
Verizon had bumped our rate up to over $100/month because our previous negotiation had expired.
So, Mr. FG hopped on a chat with a rep, and after enough back and forth, he got our bill down to $52/month, with twice the speed.
He did have to give some pushback to the $92/month the rep offered first, and eventually, Mr. FG had to tell the rep he’d cancel if the rate didn’t get competitive with the new customer rates.
(It was not an empty threat; Mr. FG had some other services he was looking at if Verizon didn’t bend a little.)
Once the rep heard that, he came back with some better numbers, and now we will pay half of what we used to.
2. We got another $40 off my rolling travel bag.
I mentioned in a previous post that we got a marked-down bag at REI for me.
A reader asked for a link, and when I looked it up, I noticed that there had been an additional markdown.
We’d only owned the bag for a week at that point, so Mr. FG volunteered to take the receipt back to REI (on his way home from work) and he got a $40 price adjustment.
So, now this purchase cost only $112, which is a very happy price for an REI bag.
(Note: most companies will give you a price adjustment if an item you bought goes on sale shortly after your purchase. It’s always worth asking!)
3. I got a free entree at Noodles and Co.
I had installed the app during a promotion, so I had a free small entree loaded on my account and I used it on our date night.
I have no idea if this offer is still available, but it’s worth a try if you are heading there.
4. I ordered two propane tanks.
I get my grill propane from Propane Taxi (an east coast door to door propane delivery service) mainly because it is so much less frustrating than dealing with the Home Depot experience, where, without fail, the propane cage doors NEVER work with the code they give you.
I ordered refills for both my tanks, because you get a $2 discount for that.
And I tweeted about my order because that gets you another $2 discount.
(the link they gave me to tweet gives new customers a Propane Taxi discount code to get a refill tank for $10. Here’s the $10 tank link if you want to give it a try.)
They’d probably give me an even bigger discount if they knew I was going to mention them in a blog post, but sadly, there’s no box to click for that. Ha.
5. I followed up again on our two ER bills
These are from November of 2019 and I am still trying to get them paid!
Cigna should cover them at 100% because last year, we met our out of pocket maximum, even for out of network care.
But apparently they have to do some negotiation with the hospital first.
I called Cigna and the hospital billing department promptly when I got this bill in December, and I’ve followed up once as well. They should have had plenty of time and notice to square this away.
I thought it was finally taken care of but nope, I got another two bills from the hospital this week.
I called Cigna again, and they said they are going to tell the hospital to put the bills on hold, and they’ll do the negotiation by end of week.
So, I am going to:
- call Cigna tomorrow to make sure they called the hospital
- call the hospital to make certain the bills are on hold
- call Cigna on Friday to make sure that they have finished the negotiation
(Do I have trust issues with Cigna? YES I DO. Ha.)
Health insurance is exhausting to deal with. I cannot even imagine how those of you with chronic medical conditions deal with it. You have my utmost respect.
