Regulars

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.

3 loaves of bread

I don’t often make cookies or cakes or bars or pies (Ok, I never make pies!), but three loaves of whole wheat bread emerge from my oven on a very regular basis.

This bread is cheap, delicious, and I’ve made it so many times, I can practically do it in my sleep.

So awesome! I haven't mastered sandwich bread yet, but I do make spicy garlic bread each week for my husband's breakfast (ok and the rest of us too) It's such a money saver once you get in the habit of making it.

Just out of curiosity, how do you slice your bread? I saw a previous post where you had beautiful even slices. I just started making bread and am trying to slice it with a large serrated knife. It does the trick, but I wish I could get it a little more even. Also, how do you store your bread once you have made it? Thanks!

Here's a post I wrote about slicing: https://www.thefrugalgirl.com/2009/07/by-very-very-very-popular-request-my-bread-knife/

I store my bread in reused commercial bread bags, and I always freeze any extra loaves promptly. So I usually have one out and put two in the freezer.

I tried to make whole wheat bread for 3 times and they never turned out good.

Your pans look the same as mine -- Chicago Metallic. Is that what yours are?

I love the Chicago Metallic loaf pans as they so evenly distribute heat, and last a lifetime. Mine have darkened slightly over the years. I've been baking 5 loaves/week, every week for 16 years with these pans, and I still love them.

Your bread looks yummy!

They look yummy! I tried making your recipe before and I never really got it right. It kept coming out worse and worse each time I tried. But it has been a while so I think I might try again.....

thanks for the inspiration!
