I’m always reading. The last book I finished was just before Christmas; I reread it every year and every year it makes me cry. Here is the summary from Goodreads about “The Story of Holly and Ivy” by Rumer Godden. I highly recommend the edition with illustrations by Barbara Cooney.
Ivy, Holly, and Mr. and Mrs. Jones all have one Christmas wish. Ivy, an orphan, wishes for a real home and sets out in search of the grandmother she’s sure she can find. Holly, a doll, wishes for a child to bring her to life. And the Joneses wish more than anything for a son or daughter to share their holiday. Can all three wishes come true? This festive tale is perfectly complemented by beloved Barbara Cooney’s luminous illustrations, filled with the warm glow of the Christmas spirit.
The last book I read was (sadly) called How To Create a Paperless Office…I have those New Years resolutions to keep! Book club is about to start up again so hopefully I’ll be reading some fun books soon!!

The book I just finished is The Dragon’s Tooth, Book 1 in the Ashtown Burials series by N.D. Wilson. It’s a rather odd choice for me, as YA fantasy is far from my first choice of reading, but my teenage niece and nephew love these books and, since we enjoy talking about books, I read it so we could discuss it. They were thrilled to get my comments and I just got the next one from the library. N.D. Wilson is a Christian man who writes creatively and has a good story to tell – almost too fast-paced for me, but just what teens like. His books are a great option for Christian teens.

I just finished reading the classic mystery book “The Complete Father Brown Mysteries” by G.K. Chesterton. A good connection to your Frugal Girl web, because I downloaded the Kindle app free on my I Phone, and this book was one of their free classic titles (Kindle has many)–so while traveling for my job as a member of the military, I can read a classic while waiting at airports or in line, etc. My goal is to continue reading any free classics I have not read before, all downloaded free! The interesting short stories had a double payoff–they transported me into another period and location(often France but some short stories took place in other settings), and the short stories could be finished during the length of most airline flights or airport gate waits! Frugal And Functional.

Gulp! A tour of the alimentary canal…it is actually really very entertaining and has changed my views on digestion. Good grief…I might be a total nerd. I like the idea of building the points toward a reward as an extra incentive. I reminded that we must be very careful what we put inside our minds whether through tv, music or books…our brains are sticky so a Kindle Fire is freedom, but the reward points are a little reminder to give care.
