Since I am a stay at home mom and a homeschooling mom, mornings at our house are probably less rushed than the average home. Don’t get me wrong…we’re up early (and how!) and we do start school and eat breakfast at a decent hour, but we generally don’t have deadlines or specific times we have to be ready for the day. This works just perfectly for me because I really, really like to operate on my own schedule (I would be very crabby about having my schedule dictated by a school!).
I guess I’m a little bit independent.
That said, we do sometimes have mornings where we are a little more rushed than others. Actually, once a week we do! I teach piano lessons out of my home (I’ve been doing so since I was 14!), and right now, I teach only one day a week. In order to fit my students all into one day, I have to start teaching sort of early, and my first student arrives at 8:00 am on Tuesdays.
Most piano teachers don’t have the luxury of teaching during the day, but lucky me! All of my current students are homeschooled, so I get to teach during traditional school hours.
Anyways, on a normal day we haven’t gotten dressed, eaten breakfast, and cleaned up the kitchen by 8:00 am, so Tuesdays are a little more hurried than usual.
So, we do breakfast a little differently on Tuesdays…I need something quick and easy that doesn’t require me making a bunch of dishes (my kitchen sink is visible from my front door, so I prefer not to have piles of dirty dishes sitting in my sink while I teach!).
Sometimes, we slice bananas into chunks and top them with peanut butter.

Sometimes, I mix up muffin ingredients ahead of time so that in the morning, all I have to do is combine the wet and dry ingredients and bake the muffins.
Sometimes, I slice up a loaf of whole wheat bread, toast it, and top it with cream cheese and jam.
And sometimes, we grab a bowl of cereal. Because it’s hard to beat cereal for convenience on a busy morning…no cooking, no toasting, no spreading, no slicing, and very few dishes. (No planning is necessary either. Yay++!) And because we mostly eat cereals that are whole grain (woot for Frosted MiniWheats!), I can generally count on us not getting hungry until my lunch break rolls around.

My favorite Kellogg’s cereal is probably the same as Zoe’s (I told you about that last time!)…Frosted Mini-Wheats. When Joshua was a baby, I ate these like they were going out of style. Nursing made me ravenously hungry, and Joshua was a really hard baby, which meant I had very little time to prepare food (the first six months of his life were super-duper hard and I am SO grateful that my following 3 babies were nothing like their brother!). Mini-Wheats are much more substantial than a lot of other breakfast cereals, and I like that they’re made with whole grains.

I ate them fairly regularly throughout my pregnancies too because they required no prep and were mild enough to appeal to my sick stomach. I also ate a lot of Rice Krispies during my pregnancies (topped with fresh peaches. Yum.)
Speaking of Rice Krispies, Sonia and Zoe love these. They can eat bowl after bowl after bowl after bowl, which is why I usually have to set some aside if I want to make Rice Krispy treats (which are enormously popular at my house!).

Zoe also has a fondness for Corn Flakes. When she was just learning how to talk, she was asking for a particular cereal by saying “Cock-adoos!”, and none of us could figure out what she was saying. Eventually it dawned on us that she was asking for corn flakes, because the Kellogg’s variety sports a rooster. So, to this day we still refer to Corn Flakes as Cockadoos.

These are the new cinnamon-flavored corn flakes from Kellogg’s and they’re in a plastic container because I had a rebate (it does make sense, I promise!). Because I know that waiting to send in rebates is a recipe for disaster (hello lost receipts, misplaced forms, and UPCs that ride off in the recycling truck!), I cut up the box to send in the rebate form as soon as I got home from the grocery store.
Mr. FG‘s favorite Kellogg’s cereal is most definitely Crispix. He doesn’t get to eat these very often, though, because for some reason, they are rarely on sale, and Crispix coupons are few and far between. (we’ve tried the generic versions and they just don’t compare!). When I do spy a Crispix sale, though, I always stock up.
I asked Joshua and Lisey what their favorite Kellogg’s cereal was, and after some thinking, they decided on S’mores cereal and Cocoa Puffs (this is probably because I’m more prone to buying plain cereals like Crispix and MiniWheats!).
