“Who took the scissors out of the drawer??”

in Household

When I was growing up, this was a constant refrain of my mom’s, since my 3 siblings and I were experts at removing the scissors, but complete and utter failures at putting them back.

My 4 offspring seem to have inherited this tendency (I do believe it’s epidemic among children), and so to solve this problem, I have the only set of orange scissors in the house, and they live in a cabinet above my kitchen sink, too high for any kid to reach without a stool.

I have to say, it is quite delightful to always have a pair of scissors available to me, and I highly recommend the practice of storing a personal pair up high. ;)

and do you recommend hiding some m& m’s up high too? I like the way you think.

In my house, the high up scissors problem is easily solved by Ally who merely hops up onto the counter, stretches precariously up until she snags them with a finger, and takes them.

I’ve yet to find a place high enough. :)

We do this too to spare ourselves cutting disasters– like D chopping the hair off of M’s Pretty Pony!

I don’t know about you but this also happens with all the tape at my house! I always buy it yet it never seems to be in the drawer!

Mine are stuck on the fridge with a magnet. They never wander too far and it is super easy to put them back. But I don’t have kids…so….maybe that’s why it works so well ; )

I wonder if that works with tape too…
Why is it that whenever *I* need the scotch tape the roll is always either missing or empty???

My mother was always yelling at us about the scissors. One of the seven children would take them, they were her good scissors for cutting fabric or our bangs, but someone would cut paper with them and ruin them. My children have known since they could pick up a pair of scissors, DO NOT USE MOMMY’S GOOD SCISSORS!! I bought scissors for each and engraved them.
I did have 3 pair of good scissors, one was missing for about 10+ years and my husband found them in the heat duct.

I solve that problem by having several pairs, one for general purpose in kitchen, one just for Tom’s desk and several for my different craft projects. One for crocheting, one for knitting, one for sewing…oh, yeah, more than enough so we always can find at least one! ;-)

lame as it is, I believe in tethering scissors…a long piece of elastic tied tightly to the handle and the other end tied to, I don’t know, the chair you’re sitting in or a drawer handle. Hard to take them out of the kitchen that way, and if they are taken, you’ll usually find the tail even if you can’t find the scissors. ;)

This would be a great idea…if my husband weren’t the scissor thief in my house. LOL!

M&M’s!! First thing I saw. Chocolate does make things better.

If you can’t find the scissors, at least you’ll have chocolate to console you.

It’s currently just my husband and I but I have my own scissors that he’s not allowed to use. I keep them in a drawer in the kitchen and he does randomly take them but he knows well enough to at least put mine back where they belong. Any other pair can go wandering thru the house, just not MY pair haha

I have three pair in the kitchen alone: desk scissors at the desk-like counter, non-food scissors in the ziploc drawer (convenient location), food scissors in the knife block. I felt a little silly when I added the non-food scissors, but not having to walk 3-4 steps each time I need non-food scissors and 3-4 steps to return them immediately (otherwise they never get back where they belong) saves me a lot of minor hassle.

This gave me a good laugh, both seeing the photo and reading the comments. I am not alone! I have the exact same orange scissors up high in our kitchen cupboard. Along with a meat scissors. The kids have four craft scissors that never seem to be in the school supply basket when they want one.

As for the meat scissors, my husband tends to forget which pair are for the meat, even though they are different colors and sizes (the meat one is a wide blue Kitchen Aid one that was a gift from a friend because she knew someone (!) blunted my other one).

Thanks for the laugh. I think I’ll be smiling each time I use my scissors today :)
