Seeing reusable jars of homemade stuff in my fridge makes me all smiles inside.
(from left to right, it’s orange jelly, blueberry jam, Asian salad dressing, and behind that there are multiple jars of homemade yogurt.

It looks like you have a side-by-side refrigerator like me. I hate to say this, but I detest mine! The reason: It is deeper rather than wider. This means that you have to store food far behind other food, which ends up getting “lost”. Food also spills down the back of it much easier because the shelves don’t fit close enough to the back. You can’t see a certain item and it gets knocked over. Also, every time I go to put leftovers or practically anything into the fridge I have to stop and rearrange everything so that it will fit. It looked so nice in the showroom, but in reality I find it impractical. I wondered if you have the same problem and, if so, how do you work with it? Thank you for all you do!
Actually, I have a fridge on top, freezer on bottom arrangement, which I LOVE! Like you, I loathe side-by-side fridges…they’re so narrow, it’s nigh onto impossible to fit anything remotely wide inside.
So I’m sorry…I have no advice! lol
I absolutely love mason jars with homemade goodies inside. I made my first batch of freezer jam this summer. The color is so different from store bought. If I buy store bought mustard or another condiment in plastic-I always transfer them to mason jars.

Hi Kristen,
Lovely jams and jelllies. Do you know about the plastic lids for those jars? They are so convenient.

I started last summer learning how to can, and I haven’t stopped! I can identify with your feelings about goodness stored up from summer in reusable containers! If I may I’d like to share my first adventure in canning! Read here: http://pixilatedtoo.wordpress.com/2009/07/24/the-domestic-queen-of-hazel-green-or-how-my-pickles-cost-me-500-00/
P.S. It’s only me and my husband in our home, but your site inspires me to do everything I can to economize and waste less! THANKS!
