Sometimes, I take my wedding ring off.

in Clothes and Shoes

I pretty much always take off my watch, my earrings, and my necklace at night, but my wedding ring only comes off if I need to put on some lotion.

I forgot to put it back on when I did this the last time, and didn’t realize it until I was in the middle of teaching piano lessons the next day.  It’s amazing how wrong and undressed my hand feels without that ring! I pay it very little mind when I’m wearing it, but when it’s off, I definitely notice.

Same here. I’ve been known to make my husband turn the car around to go get it. I do it mow and then before church. I have to take one ring off when assisting my daughter with tights/stockings.

I very rarely wear mine these days. I have a wedding ring, engagement ring and eternity ring (purchased after first child was born). It’s quite funny really as the Hubby never wanted one, and always wears his, I really desperately wanted one (and to be married), and never wear it. It makes it almost exciting when we go out together (which is once in a blue moon) as I must look like the mistress!

I take mine off when I wash my hands, so I usually have it off when I’m at home (because of cooking and washing dishes) and rarely wear it to work, because I wash my hands frequently there (several times an hour) and don’t have a very safe place to keep it. Sometimes I keep it in my purse at work, but even then it doesn’t feel very secure. So if I know I’m going somewhere right after work, then I will wear it and keep it in my purse so I can put it on.

What you said about never paying it any mind when it’s on but definitely noticing it when it’s off is kind of the way I feel about marriage sometimes. I catch myself taking marriage for granted and think about how much fun it was to be single (the freedom to be alone A LOT and feel like I could be ready to go anywhere at any time), but I know if I were to suddenly be single again, it would not feel like that anymore. I think I would feel the way your hand feels without that ring! (I won’t exactly say “wrong and undressed” because that is not where I was intending to go with this comment!! I think you know what I mean.)

Ann, have you considered wearing your ring on a necklace?

I feel the same way! I often don’t wear my rings around the house, like when I’m washing dishes or kneading dough. My rings have grooves on them (not to mention the setting on the engagement ring), so dough-encrusted rings are really gross. :-) I usually don’t notice that I’m not wearing my rings unless I’m out of the house, at which point I feel totally lost!

Absolutely feel naked without it! When my ring started shrinking–yes, I’m sticking with that explanation– my husband insisted I take it off before it cut the circulation. Well, for several years I told Tommy we were no longer married, so he could go run off if he wanted. Just this passed Christmas he decided he didn’t want to go away so he bought me a new one…it was on a super duper sale, too, so it barely cost more than the original one…and this one fit! Oh, happy day! He still loves me! :-)

Yes! My husband and I actually have wooden wedding rings, which are beautiful but can’t get wet. I *insisted* that he wear a wedding ring when we got married – before, he’d get HIT ON! Which is so not cool with me.

Then I lost a lot of weight and my wedding ring would fall off, and my hand felt naked. I remembered I had a thrift store ring (3 whole dollars) that he’d bought me a long time ago on a whim (definitely an impulse “I want that” moment), it’s slightly smaller than my wedding ring, and it makes a perfect “engagement” ring! (We had such a short surprise unannounced engagement that a full-on engagement ring would’ve been silly.)

Now I’m smiling at my pretty hand. :-)

I’ve never taken my wedding ring off in the 18 years I’ve been married. :o )
My engagement ring is a bit bigger and I take that off when I think I might catch it or it might slip off, but my wedding band is very simple and I just make sure I wash underneath it when I wash my hands (I used to work as a nurse so that used to be a *lot*!)
I think it’s feel really odd without it now.

My wedding ring “shrunk” also and my husband says it looks tight on my finger but I can get it on and off with a little effort and it doesn’t feel tight. So my rings stay on most of the time. ;)

I wear mine in public but not at home because of the bacteria that can grow. I am a nurse and I will tell you that for sure it shouldn’t be on fixing food or around newborns.

I am nowhere near engagement or marriage at this point in my life, but I’ve worn a claddagh ring every day since my 12th birthday (I have a nearly 200 year old family one and a practical, every day use one). A few months ago mine broke (the contact points of the hands at the heart are very small) and I was completely devastated.

I never realized how much I fidget and play with it while I’m wearing it. Luckily, my best friend had bought me the one I wear every day in Ireland and she bought the exact same one for herself but never wears it. I had it sized and now it’s like nothing ever happened :)

I take mine off every night when I am on call — I am a birth doula and I use lotion/oils so frequently, and worry about my engagement ring scratching a mom or baby, and I definitely do not want to take it off in the hospital and lose it!

I also take it off when I am kneading dough… and last month my daughter picked them off the counter to look at them, and put them down “somewhere.” Oh my gosh, did we look frantically. My rings were bought before the economy and family situation made us more conscious of our spending (to put it politely!), and I was VERY relieved to find them after hours of searching!

I haven’t worn mine in like forever. I have gained way too much weight and it doesn’t fit anymore.

I wore mine all the time until the last few weeks of my pregnancy with my oldest. Then I started wearing it and my claddagh on a chain around my neck. Unfortunately, my hands never really went back down, and I haven’t been able to wear my wedding band for more than a few hours at at time. It’s just a plain yellow gold band, so I’m currently saving to get it enlarged after this baby is born. I want to be able to wear it at my brother’s wedding in December!

By the way, it’s crazy how much it costs now to get rings enlarged because of the price of gold. My engagement ring (an emerald flanked by two diamonds and white gold trinity knots) was also yellow gold, and since hubby ordered it online, I couldn’t just take it into the jeweler. We had found a jeweler we wanted to order or wedding bands from, and they enlarged my engagement ring a full size for just $20. Now, every jeweler around here wants $50-70 to enlarge my wedding band (same size band as my engagement ring) about 3/4 of a size!
