And you know how I hate to throw away things that aren’t recyclable.
It was nothing a little duct tape couldn’t fix, fortunately. And since I don’t have to take my household binder out with me anywhere, I couldn’t care less about the aesthetics.

This reminds me of senior year in high school – classmate duct-taped his backpack strap back together.
AND, you could whip up a nice binder cover on the sewing machine using some kind of recycled fabric!
I’ve taped more than one binder or book, too.
I just saw a sign in Hobby Lobby last night – may have to make one for hubby – it said “If you have duct tape, I can fix it!”
Of course, would have to modify it for hubby – he said “If it can’t be fixed with duct tape or baling wire, I can’t fix it” My dad used to “fix” his boots with duct tape – that was probably more cheap than frugal though
Frugal Girl- I think you may be carrying this a little to the extreme. I’ve tried it; a goey mess from the tape is an inevitable result of such a fix. Binders at a dime a dozen at yard sales, only a bit more at thrift stores. However your binder doesn’t have to completely end up in the landfill the cardboard can be removed and used in some craft. The plastic makes very durable stencils. Then you just have to toss the 3-ring thingy.
I think this is a situation where extreme for one person isn’t extreme for another. I always say that frugality is about saving on stuff you don’t care about so you can spend on stuff that does matter to you.
I don’t care one bit about what my binder looks like, but I do care about having a nice camera. It’s all about priorities, and certainly yours and mine can be different.
Actually, I think covering the entire edge evenly would be a much better idea and maybe drawing some flower doodles. Just sayin’ looks kind of raggedy and you are just not the raggedy type!
Oh Kristen, I just had to do that to my Bible! The binding was perfectly in tact, but the cardboard cover had slowly been falling apart. I couldn’t part with it because of all my notes over the years. Too embarrassed to take it anywhere looking like that, I made a slipcover for it out of leftover fabric. I’d show you but I haven’t gotten around to posting it yet!
They now have duct tape in many colors and even “Hello Kitty” print. Maybe you need fancy duct tape now for repairs!
I have a friend who uses duct tape to fix EVERYTHING, from her car, the window blinds and books to the kid’s bike, toys and chair cushions. We call her duct-tape Linda and she’s perfectly okay with that! LOL
Duct tape is like the Force: it has a Dark Side, a Light Side, and it holds the universe together.
(Strangely, it’s no good for ducts.)
Actually, I have duct tape in my ducts. It is holding the flexible duct work to the registers, and may also be on said duct work at the furnace, but I am not sure. Said work was done by a licensed HVAC guy.
Weird: it was an HVAC contractor who told me this.
One day at a gas station, I saw a man with a t-shirt that read: I Can Fix Anything With Duct Tape.
He shook his head when I asked if he knew the female equivalent. My reply was “I can fix everything else with a glue gun.” We both laughed and went our separate ways, but I remember it as though it happened yesterday.
I think I hear a tshirt coming….
This just looks like a distaster. You should try a binder from Naked Binder! They are 100% recyclable and 100% recycled, they are a great option for someone looking for a binder that not only is great for the environment but they last longer too!
But I already owned the duct tape and I don’t care if my binder looks like a disaster…so for me, duct taping a binder is a better choice than buying a new Naked Binder. My binder works, and that’s what matters to me.
Of course, if this one gives up the ghost, then a recyclable binder would be a good option.
Ooooh, have you shared the innards of your binder or your webisite? I just searched a little but didn’t find anything. I love me a good household binder post!
I agree with Sarah– inquiring minds want to know what’s inside the binder
Could use all the help I can get!
Yep. Just gotta know whats inside.
I want to see a picture of the completed edge when you are not too busy!
Frances… I think this is the completed edge
that’s really ugly, Kirsten!!!!!!!!! I’ll bet it would give you alot of joy to have something prettier to look at on your ocunter all day!
