Last night was the first time our girls had been caroling…good timing it was, since Zoe can now read! Last year, she’d have been hard pressed to sing along with the rest of us.
Do you ever go caroling?
Previous post: I didn’t take this one.
Next post: I took this with my new point and shoot.

I can remember caroling when I was a kid, bundling up and going with my church group! It was so much fun and to see the residences truly enjoying what we were doing by the smiles on their faces. The snow crunching under our feet, our hot chocolate being almost frozen in the cups, our faces so cold and numb, and walking door to door in subdivisions. People just don’t do this anymore around here that is…ahhh, the good ‘ole days!
Fortunately for us, we didn’t have to do it in the snow, but it WAS really cold.
I agree with Missy. It’s not a regular outing anymore. We went caroling with our church youth group. It was fun and the snow made it all the more fun. So really Kristen, it is unfortunate that you didn’t get to go in the snow. For me growing up in the Northeast, it seems more festive and “Christmasy” with snow.
Leah recently joined the school choir, and performed at “Young Voices” in the UK (Nov). A fab event with about 8,000 kids at one venue (arena) singing. They did carols as well as other songs. Really lovely. Point of commenting however is that the reading soon comes on. As with Zoe, this time last year it wouldn’t have been possible! I went caroling as a child, but it seems to have died out a little in the UK, unless it’s because I’ve moved from a busy through road to a quieter area?
My family has gone caroling on Christmas Eve with our neighbors for 4 years. We will be going again this year. We don’t ask for donations, and have politely tried to discourage them, but with the money that we ended up collecting last year, (some people insist), we made a donation to a local bereavement/house of hope center. Was written about in our local village newsletter recently so people will be expecting us!
as a teen our church asked us to sing to our church members, who were expecting us with cakes and cookies, homemade sausages, sandwiches, stuffed cabbage etc, etc, thru the cold and snow, even snow falling! We were a huge church so sometimes we sang till 6am! We loved it, our churc still does that! I wish to be in Romania this season, where our family would sing around, eat etc but we never focused on presents! We never did! Now in the US, we do share presents but only to immidiate family and never on credit cards!!
