Black, Pink, and Purple

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.

Laura, a reader of mine, has a grandma (Marion) who has been knitting mittens and socks for years.   One day in 2012, Marion asked Laura if she’d like to try to sell some handknit mittens, and they opened an Etsy shop called Marion’s Mittens.

(You have to love an entreprenurial grandma. Her mittens have now been shipped to four continents!)

Aren’t they beautiful?

You can read more about this shop’s cute story and see a photo of Marion and her granddaughter here. Laura and Marion make adult and kid mittens, and they also sell handy thumbless baby mittens.

When they sent the mittens for my girlies, they also sent a discount code for you guys.   The code FRUGALGIRL will get you 20% off any purchase from the Marion’s Mittens Etsy shop.

Marion’s Mittens sent us complimentary mittens, but this post was not sponsored in any other way.   Laura inquired about advertising, but I thought her grandma’s story was so cute, I told her I’d share it just because.   😉

When we were little my brother and I got to open one gift Christmas Eve. It was always mittens from my Grandmother's neighbor Sara. We knew it was mittens and we looked forward to that one gift every year. Now about 40 years later I am a knitter and I know how much work goes into and I appreciate those mittens even more. It is also one thing my brother and I always remember about Christmas and it makes us smile. Sarah has since passed away but we always remember her fondly.

So cute! I wish we had an excuse to wear mittens in FL. I love cold weather clothing!

Very cool! Looks like she doesn't have customers in Wyoming so maybe I'll need to be the first!

I rediscovered knitting 2 years ago. This winter I tried my hand at knitting mittens and have now made 3 pairs of them. You more advanced knitters will roll your eyes because I have a 2-needle pattern, but I hate dpn's. They really weren't as difficult as I had anticipated--they make for good Downton Abbey knitting ... ;) Thanks for the fun knitting post, Kristen--I like it that you appreciate hand-crafted items. These are beautiful AND functional, the best of both worlds, IMHO.

Ain't no eye-rolling over here, I promise.

lovely mittens. Being a knitter, I know how much work goes into these.

Interesting - I knit, and consider mittens quick and easy.
