(Those are soft frosted sugar cookies from Annie’s Eats topped with holiday sprinkles from Aldi. I’d never made these cookies before and I’m not sure I would again since they had sort of a weird aftertaste. I’m thinking it was maybe from all the baking powder? I’ll probably stick with my soft and chewy sugar cookie recipe.)

Hi all! Just piping in on the baking powder issue. The bitter after taste comes from the aluminum that is used in most brands of baking powder. I switched to Rumford brand aluminum free baking powder and the problem went away.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day everyone! About the cookies. . .I've tried to make Lofthouse style cookies with little success. Anyone found a recipe that replicates that cookie well? My kids love them, but they're expensive to buy. They like the soft, fluffiness of that cookie. Oh, and not the cake mix version. We can't eat boxed cake mixes here.

Happy Memorial Day! Our Bank Holiday would normally be today in the UK, but it's changed this year as we are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next week. I was looking for inspiration as the Kids are having a street party at school... thinking some red,white and blue sprinkles on top of some cakes would go down a treat (saves trying to replicate the Union jack on each one) - now where to find them? Haven't seen any in Aldi UK!
