Food Waste Friday | yay for me!

Every week, I post a picture of the food that has gone bad over the last seven days. Why do I do this? Because in March of 2008, I finally got fed up with the amount of food I was wasting, and I thought that showing my waste to other people would motivate me to use up my food instead of wasting it. Because this often embarrassing practice was so helpful for me, I invited other bloggers to join me in posting their food waste photos, and Food Waste Friday was born. If you’re not a blogger but still want some food waste accountability, feel free to participate by leaving a comment.

I’ve got nothin’ to report today. And that’s happy news on a Friday.

Because that would be exceedingly boring, here’s a picture from the other night (it was the TBD night from the menu plan…we ended up going to Chili’s).

Because we are insane, my sister and I took all 8 of our children out (including the birthday boy, who is the blonde one there), and mercifully, it went quite well (we even got a compliment on the kids’ behavior).

Please know that we did not use the Beer and Wine menu on the table. 😉

Here’s a gratuitous picture of Annalise, a.k.a. Angel Baby, a.k.a. lowest-maintenance-baby-on-the-planet.

She’s amazing!

I've been visiting your blog since August I think, and I absolutely love it!! It's one of the places I go to for an uplifting minute. I've started baking bread weekly and my husband does the yogurt every other week. But I've got a question, why no wine or beer? Is it a frugality thing or a religious thing?

Oh, I just said that because we had so many children with us...so many, my sister and I both had to drive.

And since we're both awful lightweights, drinking was certainly not appropriate that evening. lol

Plus, I thought it was funny to see the beer and wine menu sitting in front of all those children.

Anyhow, I'm not opposed to alcohol consumption in moderation. ;)

Almost no waste this week - about 1/2 commercial yogurt.

But I have the dreaded cilantro. I've lost track of all my cilantro recipes - post some and help me out?

I had to waste some old margarine that upset me and some cheese.I hate to waste anything so it has been a bad week. What gorgeous children. Enjoy your weekend.

Im new to your blog, love it! But I just wanted to remind folks that it good manners to tip on the amount the restaurant bill would have been before any discount or free stuff!

When we have gift cards or a Groupon, we always tip on the amount we'd have paid before the gift cards.

I'm a little more iffy on paying a pre-discount price if the restaurant is offering the discount price. For instance, if a meal usually costs $15 but the restaurant is offering it for $10 as a special, I'd tip on $10, not $15.

unfortunately, it was a shameful week here. I haven't been home for dinner in about 3 weeks due to a family medical situation and then I got sick on top of it... so we had a lot of wasted produce and such, which makes me really sad. I hope to turn that around this week, but we'll see how life plays out. That said, I cut my grocery buying by 2/3 and am sort of buying on the fly this week to avoid waste. That way if we don't make it home for dinner, we aren't eating out AND wasting food at home.
