A wedding photo

I informed Mr. FG of the fact that several of you really wanted to see a wedding photo of us, but alas, he steadfastly refuses to give me the green light to post one of the two of us (though he does acknowledge that it would be good for his growth in humility!).

I can embarrass myself without his permission, though, so here’s one of me, in all my 19-year-old 90′s glory. Hee.

And here’s another one of me, gazing into Mr. FG’s eyes.  Except that I cropped him out.

I did post an uncropped version of this photo in a old Q&A post (probably back in 2008 or early 2009), but I can’t locate it.  So, if you are DYING to see Mr. FG on our wedding day, feel free to dig through the archives.  ;)

For some reason, that same folder contains a few pictures from my brother’s wedding, so I thought I’d throw them in here for fun.  This is back in 2007, and though we did have 4 kids by then, Zoe and Sonia didn’t come to the wedding (it was in the middle of naptime!).

It’s crazy how much older-looking Joshua and Lisey are now!

And here’s one of me and all my siblings (from left to right, my younger brother, me, my younger sister, and my older brother).

I’ll let you know if Mr. FG ever breaks down and says yes to the wedding photos, but this will have to suffice for now.  ;)

Dear FG’s Mama Ruth, you have such beautiful and handsome children.

I’m sure that my mother, being as unbiased as she is, would agree with you. ;)

hey now, for a ’90s wedding dress, it’s pretty stylish, even by today’s standards. no huge sleeves or ridiculously large sewn-on flowery things. good for you for having excellent taste, even at 19! :-p

and i have to hand it to you. for being 13 years older, with 4 small-ish kids, you haven’t really aged since your wedding day. whatever your secret is, you need to share it with us all! i hope to look that good when i’m in my 30′s too!

Well, it WAS late 90s (97) but the dress has a really big bow on the back of it. lol It’s just not visible in these photos.

I don’t think I have any anti-aging tips, except that maybe a happy heart and laughter are good medicine :)

I think you look even better now than you did at 19! I don’t think most people can say that. :-)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I know it’s crazy, but I almost think you look younger now than before. How is that possible?

Maybe it’s because my hair is less froofy. lol

And thank you. I’ll totally take the compliment. =P

Aw, I meant it as a compliment! See, this is why I shouldn’t go on the internet when I can’t sleep. What I should have said is that you’re gorgeous and don’t look a day older than your wedding day!

I took it as a compliment, silly! ;) It’s all good.

I found it! http://www.thefrugalgirl.com/2009/03/monday-qa-edition-1/
Isn’t it so funny how quickly our wedding pictures become outdated? I’ve only been married for 3 years, so my pictures still look current. I’m sure it won’t be long before that changes!

Glad someone found it!! Hee Hee. I wanted to see him in it too! You look just as pretty now as you did then :-)

Well, I’m hoping when I get married next October that I don’t look like a complete doofus. My fiancee will of course look beautiful and her timeless beauty will shine.

I, at best, can hope I don’t look like a db. :-P

Be grateful you didn’t get married … I was going to specify several narrow date ranges but upon consideration I have to make it late 60s through late 80s.

I know. There were some very dreadful wedding dresses (and headgear too!) in the 80s. Fortunately, I was 2-12 during that decade, so getting married was out of the question. =P

We call the 70′s the dorky decade. Too bad my wedding pictures are from the 70′s.

Awesome pics! Your whole family is very attractive. Isn’t it usually the women that are self concious about pictures? lol

Well, Mr. FG is just more private overall than I am (he’d never write a blog like I do!). lol So, I try to be respectful of that, and try to check with him before I talk about/show him on the blog (although I didn’t run the anniversary post by him first because I wanted to surprise him with it. And because I didn’t think he’d mind a bunch of public praise). ;)

Very cute, and really not too bad for a 90′s era. We are the same age, but I can’t imagine getting married at 19. Of course, I hadn’t met my husb yet, and as he is 7 years my senior, it may have seemed a bit scary dating a 26 year old at that age. ( the strange thing is, we were actually introduced my freshman year of college, but we never talked at all again until 3 years later, when it all clicked into place very quickly. the LORD must have know we needed to grow up some first.) My husb and I will be married 9 years tomorrow, with 3 kids. People though I was crazy getting married at 23. It is amazing how time flies.

Actually, my husband is 7 years my senior too. ;) But, I was what you would call an old 19 year old, so it’s never seemed like there’s a big age gap between us.

Getting married at 19 is DEFINITELY not for everyone…it all depends on maturity. Some people are ready to get married at 19, and some people still aren’t ready to get married when they’re 40! lol

I didn’t know your husband was so much older than you! My husband is 9 years older than me, and we got married when I was 18…I consider myself an “old 20 year old” now. :-)

Oh, I had no idea you were so young! lol I assumed you were 23-24 or so.

I think oftentimes guys take a while to mature, so it often works out pretty well to marry an older guy. I’ve rarely met a 19 year old guy who’s ready for marriage.

Yep! I turn 21 in November, but I’m still very young. :-)

I was 19 in my wedding pictures too! Ironically, I look a lot better now, even though I’m 30, because I have a MUCH better haircut and I’m about 30 pounds thinner! My hair looked SO BAD in my wedding pictures. Of course, my ex-husband had a pompadour back then. (Seriously) My parents tell me that the pompadour should’ve been the first of many big red flags…:P

Oh my soul. A pompadour?? lol

Your dress looks EXACTLY like the one I had when I got married!! Did it have a bow in the back at the waist?

Reply

26 Kristen August 17, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Yup, a big one! I think I had it modified to be a little bit smaller, but it’s still big!

Oh, wow, you got married at 19? I’m always impressed by people who know who they want to be with that young. I got married 4 months ago (age 26), and it took me 5 years to finally agree to it! I didn’t wear a traditional “wedding” dress, though, so I hope i don’t look too dated in my blue wrap top and long black bias cut (on both sides, it ended up as this triangle kind of front, very cool, going down on both sides, so the triangle points up in the middle, if that makes any sense).
I also LOVE the sibling picture! Those are my favorites.

Yeah, it’s not for everyone. But I was an odd 19 year old. =P I was very sure about what I wanted in a husband and what I wanted out of life.

Mr. FG is actually the first person I ever had a relationship with…I was just blessed to meet the right one right away!

OK, ‘fess up. What did you frugally do with your dress? I know of two dress “re-cyclings” by my cousins, 1 lovely bedroom throw pillow (it was a 1990 wedding dress that cut down to the navel-my mother just about freaked when she saw that coming down the church aisle), and my grandmother’s 1938 heavy satin dress which my shortest cousin got. (Grandma was barely 5’2.)

Well, I was going to sell it, but chickened out. lol So, it’s currently preserved in a box, and maybe one of my girls will want to wear it.

Either that, or I’ll save the money and screw up the courage to do a Trash The Dress photo session. lol

Fun pics. :) Thanks for sharing! So fun to see the one of Joshua and Lisey when they were littler, too. I think Lisey looks a lot like Zoe there! (Or is it more accurate to say that Zoe resembles a younger Lisey?)

33 Kristen August 18, 2010 at 12:30 pm

Zoe was a carbon copy of Lisey when she was a baby…it was crazy! She looks a little different than Lisey now, but they definitely resemble each other.

Awww — LOVE this! And you look lovely, not dated a bit! I got married in the mid-eighties, and just narrowly missed the strange “band-across-the-middle-of-the-forehead” veil thing that was so popular. Really a strange way to visually cut the face!

Oh, and your family is lovely, too! Thanks for sharing all this!

I think it looks really nice and soft, Beautiful pictures! I would not be afraid to look like that today.

I myself am 19 at the moment and planning our wedding (he’s 22) but I will turn twenty by then. The day of we will have dated for 3 1/2 years, so it came as no surprise to family.
