By request: my new hair

All these photos are courtesy of Joshua, because I’m too impatient to use a tripod, my 50mm lens is impossible to use for a self-portrait, and my 24-70 lens is way too heavy to hold with one hand.

Here’s my hair after having not been cut for a year (last July I had a cut and highlights done).

And here is the new, improved hair. Lighter! And fluffier! And with more body!

I’ve known for a while that my nose is crooked (I think it happened in a car accident back in 98.  Or maybe it’s been that way forever!), but apparently I have a crooked smile sometimes too.

Oh well.  Too much symmetry would be boring, right?

At least, that’s what I tell myself.  ;)

He does a good job, doesn’t he? I’m very fortunate to have him around for those times when I can’t be behind the camera!

Can you talk a little bit about the wheat you bought when you have time. Do you keep it in a rotation and grind it for every day use or is it stored for some other purpose. What kind of grinder/mill do you use? Family members are getting together to buy wheat and have asked us to join but don’t really know what to do yet. Would love to have some input from you. Thanks!

Honestly, your nose looks fine. If it is a little crooked, it only adds character. But, it isn’t crooked enough for someone to notice. If your smile is more crooked the second time, it is only because it was a bigger smile. Nuttin’ wrong with that!!

Ah, thanks. It’s definitely not something I obsess about, and I usually only notice it in pictures…when I look in the mirror, it looks more straight to me. It’s weird.

Crooked or not, it’s ok…I’m pretty sure my husband doesn’t love me for my nose! lol

I have the same thing going on with me. In the mirror my nose looks fine, but in pictures it is crooked. After noticing this on me I actually started to notice it on other people also (only because I’m really looking) and it’s pretty surprising how many people’s noses aren’t straight! I find more crooked noses than straight ones, lol.

Love the hair, the smile, and the highlights! BTW: That peachy coral top looks AMAZING on you. Snatch up every top in that color pronto! :)

Thank you…I bought it last week at Goodwill, and I hesitated on the color, having never bought something in that particular shade before!

I totally thought about you when I had my hair colored yesterday because I remembered your recent hair-coloring disaster. lol

So cute! And your son is learning your photography skills, how great.

My husband loves my crooked smile and crooked nose. My whole body is crooked! Ha.

There are a lot of crooked things about me too, but I think my husband must not be able to see those things or something. lol Methinks love has made him blind. =P

Ooh, I should send you a picture for Thrifty Threads! The shirt is from Goodwill.

I think Joshua took some pictures where you can actually see the shirt…I’ll take a look.

Yes, a perfect summer Thrifty Threads. That would be great! It really is a pretty color and it looks great on you.

1. There is no such thing as too much symmetry for engineers and physicists. ha. We like the second half of the problem to be the same as the first.

2. I am so glad to see you wear your hair in braids too. People always comment about my hair when I braid it. I usually get called Pippi (after pippi longstocking) or pocahontas. I think braids are cute.

3. Crooked smiles are cute. My husband has one. I think love IS blind. :)

I always feel conflicted about braids…I like to wear them, and my husband likes it when I wear my hair like that, but then I always feel a little worried that it’s not appropriate for a 32 year old mom of four! lol

But, I usually end up figuring that whoever decided what’s appropriate and what’s not is probably not that important, and since I’m never representing a company other than my own, I don’t really need to worry about all of that.

“I always feel a little worried that it’s not appropriate for a 32 year old mom of four!”

Oh, sheesh. I hope you’re not being serious. On the other hand, if that’s the worst thing you have to worry about…

No, no, I am serious! lol I know some people feel that braids are juvenile, so it always gives me pause when I’m braiding my hair. =P

Obviously it doesn’t stop me, though.

Looks lovely! TH does fantastic work. Kudos to her scissors and skills! My mane is 2 inches shorter. Yesterday must have been “Get a Haircut Day”!

Looks great :) And, I would gladly trade the 20 extra pounds I’m still packing around (I’ll just call it baby weight–baby weight that won’t go anywhere if I keep feeding it chocolate), for a supposedly crooked nose.

You look lovely! No crookedness, just a happy, pretty smile!

And in the first picture, can really see how your children are lucky to look like you!

I love love love your hair! Looks super cute! I like getting my hair cut in the summer. I like to think it’s going to make me cooler. Not that anything really would…it’s going to be in the mid-90s this weekend with humidity in the 80-90% as well. Welcome to summer in Alabama I guess.

I also love that shirt. I wish my Goodwill had clothes that cute.

1) I think you have a budding photographer in your home; and
2) those “crookeds?”…that’s called character and that is good. :)

Your nose look perfectly straight to me…coming from a girl who took a knee to the nose in junior high… having two older brothers is tough :) Lucky we have husbands who love us just the way we are!

Actually studies have proven that the human eye prefers faces that are somewhat asymmetric; in fact most people are at least a little asymmetric. Anyway, you look great!

Love your blog. I don’t comment often, but I read several times per week.

So I have to ask – when your hair begins to grow out and your darker roots begin to show, will you go back to get your hair done again (which your hair looks great btw :) or just dye it yourself back to its “regular” color? Do you have the problem of going gray already? I only ask because I’m 31 and have been going gray since I was 26 (so my roots look horrid). I end up religiously getting my hair done about every 6-8 weeks (both colored and trimmed). I couldn’t imagine going a whole year without a trim or color (aka ugly white-silver roots and split ends). I did used to color my own hair, but it got to the point where it was more hassle than I wanted to deal with, so now I do pay someone to do it. I know it may not be as frugal, but for me its more efficient, no more dye stains in my bathroom, and the trims actually keep my hair looking better than ever. Just curious – thanks!

I only have a few random gray hairs as of yet, so when I got my highlights done last year, I just let them grow out. lol

My highlights aren’t very heavy, they’re blended with two different colors, and they’re not way different than the color of my regular hair, so it’s not super-duper obvious as they grow out.

I should really haul myself in to get a trim more often than once a year…I always mean to go more often but don’t make the time for it!

You look great Kristen! I can’t see how your nose is crooked! The new hair suits you.. you rock the bob! :) How did you get the volume? Or that just came with the hair style?

Thanks! My hair tends to have a fair amount of volume if it’s short. Once it gets longer, the hair gets too heavy to have a lot of body.

Plus, my hairdresser did a LOT of layers, which lightens my hair a lot.
