Can you find the one that doesn’t belong?

My niece, who is 10 days younger than Zoe, was with us on our grocery shopping day this week, so our trip was wilder and crazier than usual.

And we got even more stares than we usually do while we’re out and about.

Here’s what we bought.

And here’s what I spent.

Aldi-44.15

Weis-$34.14

That’s a total of $78.29, which makes me happy.  :)

Here’s a run-down of what we’ll be eating this week.

Breakfast: oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, homemade yogurt, pancakes, toast, and cereal

Lunch: yogurt smoothies, fruit, sandwiches made with whole wheat bread, and leftovers as necessary

Some of the meals on this week’s menu are here because they got bumped from last week…one day we were at a funeral, and another day, I just decided to make clam chowder instead of the planned meal.

Saturday

  • Pizza
  • green salad
  • cream soda

Sunday

  • snacky stuff for the Superbowl  :)

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

  • Chicken Wraps
  • fruit salad

Thursday

  • Broiled Tilapia Fillets
  • Challah
  • green salad

Friday

  • Teriyaki Chicken
  • side dishes will be decided upon later (dependent on next week’s sales and also what’s left in my fridge!)

I have 2 nieces! One is 2 years old, and the other one is just 3 weeks old! I never see them, though, because my sister lives in LA. I’m hoping she will visit this Summer.
As for me, I’m going WAY over budget this week with my grocery spending. My parents sent me some money ($100!) and I plan to spend about $80 of it on FOOD.:P This week, there will be tasty ham in my pot o’ beans, row upon row of pomegranate yogurt in the fridge, and 1 1/2 pounds of beef in my meatloaf!

Oh, that will be fun. I got a $50 gift card to Trader Joe’s a little while back, and it was fun to just shop for whatever I wanted.

Hi there, I’m so happy to find your site (through @ING). Your twitter bio sold me as I care deeply about all of those things. This post you did with the kid pics is precious. We homeschooled our guys through 8th grade and would have continued but we found an amazing project based charter school that I wish I could go to as well! :) We also ran a small homeschool from our home and 2 acre property for many years. Anyway, that’s a little about me. Great website and twitter feed-keep up the good work and have a great day.

After all the hoopla (heavens!) this week on your blog, I love that you added another child to your family photo…made me smile and praise the Lord~
Thank you for writing and being who you are…I so look forward to reading your thoughts!
Snowy days are the best! We get them all the time here in MN and we cherish the days full of snow, books and PJs. Have a blessed weekend!

Goodness, I didn’t even think about that! That’s pretty funny. In case anyone is worrying, though, the niece is not a permanent addition to our family…I just am the backup babysitter sometimes. lol

I always make a two-week-meal-plan. And usually grocery costs about $70-100 depending on what’s on the menu. I’ve been able to save a lot of money because of the meal plan. :)

I love the pictures of the kids all on the couch in their pjs! It looks like you don’t have a coffee table either. We finally took our coffee table out when we realized our main living space was easier for the kids without it. Do you guys have a family room? (Your living room looks very decluttered!) Also the photo of your purchases has a lot of positive energy this week! I missed the controversial thread but did read your post that initiated it. I think that a critical key to happiness is to live our lives true to our colors….and to not worry about what others think. We will never please everyone – gosh – how could we? I love your positive attitude.

Yeah, we used to have a coffee table, but when we rearranged our living room furniture, the coffee table didn’t work anymore (the piano bench bumped into it!). So, we gave it away on Freecycle.

We don’t have a family room…the living room is all there is. I am something of a minimalist, so I like to keep it kind of decluttered in there. It does get messy sometimes, though!

Okay. I had to go back and read the posts. I think amazing progress is made in this world when two people with completely different viewpoints come together through discussion to find a middle ground where they can meet for awhile. That was actually very inspiring to me.

Is that a cinnamon swirl bread? Now that you have me baking I want to try making my own so I’m on the hunt for a good recipe. =)

Could you talk more about the homemade yogurt? I’m curious whether you make it because you especially like the taste, or because buying the milk and making it yourself saves you money? I’ve never calculated the cost differences… wondering if you have.
