Ashley it can be composted, but if you have a bin that is open to critters, you might not want to compost rice and other grains (they can attract rodents).

Honey, I've thought the same thing! It's just NOT worth the risk when it comes to meat.

Had a night this week where I was very tired. Woke up the next morning and found chicken (which I had been defrosting on the countertop)-it was room temperature! I decided that $3 worth of lost chicken wasn't worth hours (and countless $$$'s) spent in the ER treating food poisoning! But I do so hate to throw food away!

There has been a theme for us the last three weeks: rice, rice, and more rice!!! It is embaressing! Some is Mexican and most is steamed rice but there is a lot of it! Can't figure out why I made so much! There is only my husband and I in the house for goodness sake! Can plain steamed rice be composted?

That's so funny you've never heard of stromboli! It's sort of like a rolled up pizza loaf. You spread tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings on dough, roll it up jelly-roll style, and bake it.

Kalee, I believe you can freeze it either right away or after the first rise, but I'll have to double check on that.

I'm built like you, by the way...most of my height is in my torse, which is a pain when I'm buying shirts or swimsuits.

We have the same problem finishing up leftovers if something tastier is added to the mix.

I am overwhelmed with tomatoes right now. I have tried to use them before they have turned to mush, but have not been completely successful.

This has nothing to do with food waste, but I just wrote a post about why I DO request free samples and linked to you, and I thought you might be interested! You really got me thinking about the whole free sample thing and whether or not (and why) it was worth it to me.

I was wondering if you might know when to freeze things like pizza dough and bread dough? We always have enough pizza dough for 2 pizzas, but with just the 2 of us, we obviously don't need that much! I am wanting to be able to make the double batch and freeze it rather than simply halve it, that way I can take the dough out and thaw it when we're having a lazy night, but do I freeze it after it's risen and I've punched it down?

Oh, and G's not all that tall, just 6'1", but he's like me and has normal legs with a long torso.....our poor children are going to be long and lean, but have average legs. I used to think it didn't matter, but clothes make it easier to have long legs than need extra coverage on top!

And yes, what is stromboli? I've heard of it, but haven't a clue what it is!

What is stromboli? I've never heard of that! I had NO WASTE this week - yehaa! I've been on a zero food waste challenge week though, after two dreadful weeks while you were away.
Good to be back in the land of no food waste! AND I made tomato ketchup, which I am immensely proud of!
