Do you know how to convert Bisquick to the "raw" ingredients? I have a recipe I love (for pumpkin bread) that uses Bisquick, but I never buy Bisquick for the reasons you stated above. My family is missing that pumpkin bread, though...

William, that's awesome. I love it when things work out so well.

I'm not a big Bisquick fan either, just because I don't see the need. It takes, what, 2 minutes to combine flour, salt, baking powder, and oil/butter? And when you do it yourself, you can use something other than Crisco/shortening, which is what's in those types of mixes.

Instead of a Food Waste post I have a Food Non-Waste brag.

For reasons not relevant to the conversation, I had an opened box of Bisquick. Not something I usually touch, thankyouverymuch, I do just fine with flour, baking powder, salt and fat. It was already opened so I couldn't donate it. I disliked the thought of just throwing it out. So it sat in my pantry for a while.

I'm having an indeterminate number of friends over tomorrow and Monday is a block party. Hey - good time for baked goods, right? So I spent a hour on the Betty Crocker site, settling on fruit mini muffins and a fruit quickbread.

So what's bragworthy? As luck would have it, the two recipes used *exactly* all the Bisquick. No leftover, no needing to make up the difference. And as a bonus, the recipes used the too-soft bananas in the freezer and the dried fruit I'd made to rescue berries about to go bad.

(OK, so maybe it wasn't pure luck. But good planning can go only so far. That it works out so perfectly is luck.)

Ack; I wasted a pound of plums this week - the last ones of the season too; so I need to wait another year to taste them again. I'm so annoyed with myself.

Still, Kristen - a great week for you, well done and good luck with cleaning out your fridge :)

Kayla-if you're reading this, I wanted to let you know that I can't leave a comment on your blog. I tried to comment on your post about your yogurt, but the comments won't open.

I was going to suggest using the yogurt in a smoothie...just combine a banana, frozen strawberries, and the yogurt and it will taste much better. :)

[thinking about what I took to the compost pile this week]

Almost nothing, which is amazing considering the fridge was overstuffed this week. I find it much easier to loose food in an overstuffed fridge. A lamb kabob from Whole Foods that didn't turn out nearly as well as it should have. A couple of homegrown tomatoes that were damaged or just old while still on the vine.

There are things that houseguest and I need to get to or next week won't be so happy.
