I just found your blog and spent some time browsing your archives.
My husband is very into not wasting food so he'd love if I jumped on board with Food Waste Friday.
I usually do pretty well- I often have a leftover lunch where I bring out all our small containers of leftovers and serve them up. It can be a really random meal but a lot of times my kids prefer it that way :)

Hello, I really love your blog...so interesting. The freezer burn may have been the result of not blanching before freezing? I know it's a pain, but it really does help when preserving food.

This was my first Food Waste Friday (and indeed, my first blog post ever!) It was truly a walk of shame.

I did fairly well this week...just a bit of meat that *may* have still been good, but I didn't trust it.

I must have been inspired by Mrs. Green's funny banana photo, because I had a banana rot and mold on me, which is a new experience.

Terribly! An entire head of lettuce went bad when I was away for 4-5 days, which means I hadn't eaten salad for 4-5 before I left (also terrible). And farmers market strawberries a week before. I don't feel badly about random scraps or things I don't like (turnip tops), but I hate it when a chunk of food I want to eat goes bad. Such a waste - especially those strawberries. That's what I get for saving them for someone else.

On the plus side, last night I made the first meal from my garden. It's tiny and there won't be many mostly-home-grown meals but I had italian sausage with home grown chard. I munched on the first home-grown carrot and the first home grown cucumber while I was cooking.

Well done, Kristen; that's a really good week. I kinda cheated with mine. I created food waste, but we were staying at a friends with cooked food waste collections. Just as well; I had a week of burning things. Not very good for the bank balance, but at least the food didn't end up in landfill!

You did not have to toss very much. Especially since the greenbeans went into the compost bin.

I've been trying to be really good lately, so I haven't had a lot of waste! Just some leftover yucky pasta salad no one would touch!
