This is part of a pizza sub. I reaaaally should have thrown this out last week, as it was teetering on the edge of being too old then. I thought that I would get around to eating it, but obviously, that didn’t happen.
Unfortunately, this has to go in the trash instead of the compost, so it truly is waste.

Hello,
I am a new reader and I notice you make your own yogurt. Have you posted your recipe for making yogurt on your site?
I just made it for the first time last night–too fun and very easy! I used a combination of heating the milk on the stove, cooling in an ice bath, and then into a preheated crock pot overnight for incubation. I’m going to try heating the milk in the microwave next–less fuss than a double boiler once I can figure out how long to acheive the right temperature.
I am also baking my own breads to be frugal. I am getting a lot of joy out of doing these simple things. These are drops in the proverbial bucket, but I hope they add up over time.
Thanks so much for keeping me motivated! I’ve looked good the past couple of weeks, but TRUST me that hasn’t always been the case!
No waste for me, but that’s at least partly because I’ve been at my parents house!
Half a canteloupe went bad, because there’s so much other produce in the fridge.
The chard stems are on the verge but I’m going to give them a try for tomorrow’s dinner (a fancy ribeye steak and homegrown chard).
Another entire canteloupe went moldy before I could cut it but I don’t think that should count: it came from the store only 1-2 days before – store’s fault!
I tried the Maple Banana Streusel muffins that were linked here a while ago, didn’t like them and only managed to foist half of them onto someone else. I ate the streusely tops and composted the bottoms.
OTOH, I saved the garlic scapes. Even though I cut off a lot of the bottom the scapes were fibrous. I tried making garlic scape pesto, a failure. The scapes were still fibrous even after I blended, then cooked a while, then blended a lot more. Tasted lovely but oh, those nasty fibers. So I’m making garlic scape pesto meatloaf. Since I grind meat, I just threw the pesto into the grinder as well. Presto! No long fibers. I’m eating the meatloaf now and when it’s done, I’m making mashed potatoes with all the garlicky fat that baked out (from the pesto as well as the pork fat).
I also converted my parents to homemade yogurt – as long as I make it for them.
William, I don’t believe I’ve ever made banana streusel muffins…maybe one of my commenters left a link? lol
I feel the same way about produce that goes bad early; that it shouldn’t count as my fault!
A truly terrible week at our house! We cleaned out the fridge and found several jars and bottles WAY past their “sell-by” date. Embarrassing, but at least it won’t happen again! The pantry and fridge have been purged!
As far as your pizza sub, not too bad. Although, in our house I can’t imagine anything even remotely pizza-related getting tossed.
@Kristen Definitely could have been a responder to linked to it, or even linked to a site that linked to it. I liked the streusel topping – no nuts! – but the muffins themselves were blah and slightly heavy. But I’d rather fail than never try.
Kristen, why can’t you compost the sub? I compost stuff that’s gone moldy or (very) bad often, because that’s just what happens to it in the compost bin.
Yay for us – no food waste. Quite a bit of landfill waste, but at least no food.
Well done Kristen – you keep us all inspired and motivated
