Food Waste Friday!

No food waste picture, because I wasted nothing this week, finally! It’s been a while since I had a no-waste week.

To keep this from being uber-short and boring, I should mention that I did make peanut butter cookies to use up the natural peanut butter that’s been sitting in my cupboard forever. I used a Cook’s Illustrated recipe, and it was delicious. So, no worries about me wasting the rest of the peanut butter. 😉

I’m a happy girl today. Not only did I waste nothing, the weather is so delightful today that I currently have laundry hanging outside on my clothes line, and I’m also finishing up the painting on the second nightstand that I purchased from Goodwill. Plus, it’s supposed to be even warmer for the next two days, which bodes well for my next electric bill. Yay for spring!

Julia, if I was iffy on that juice, I'd use it to bake something. Lots of muffins or quick breads call for OJ(like cranberry bread or cranberry muffins). Or you could make regular muffins but use oj instead of milk and add some grated orange peel.

Renee, I have that problem too sometimes when I try a new recipe. I don't think there's much you can do to avoid that, other than making small batches of new foods.

Any thoughts on how long a carton of orange juice is good? We have one marked that it was opened on February 7th and by some strange circumstance it's still about 1/3 full. (Usually my husband slurps down the whole carton because it's such a treat for us and we don't have it every time.) It smells okay but usually I try to use up opened drinks within 10 days or so...

We had a pretty good week here too. Most of the waste from us was from food we do not like...I would love to hear how others deal with this issue!!

Wow, Stacey! You're really fast..I just got that post up a few minutes ago. lol

I love it when we have delicious birthday leftovers...it's much more fun to eat those than it is to eat the more boring, everyday leftovers.

I also had another great week. We have an nice challenge for the next week though - eating up all the treats from my husband's birthday!
