We LOVE Orange Julius! Here is the recipe we use:
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup orange juice concentrate
1/2 cup water
2T sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
enough ice to reach desired consistency.

Mine ends up always being too thick so I thin it down with orange juice (not the concentrate.) To boost up the healthfulness of it, I often substitute vanilla yogurt for the milk. Yum!

Just made the Orange Julius with cheese quesadillas after returning from a very moving, very hot and humid Memorial Day parade and service at our township's veteran's cemetary. The drink was awesome! I used 1/4 cup sugar . Kids loved it - said it was just like the one at the mall (at what - 70 percent cheaper?) Poured the remainder in a Zip Lock and freezing it. Plan to pop it in the blender for easy summer drink.

Hmmm. One is forced to wonder - how would the orange julius work if combined with the strawberry sauce?

Excuse me, I have a sudden need to head to my lab... I mean kitchen!

(I also have 25 pounds yet of frozen sweet cherries I need to use up that may have to get tossed in and tried in this.)

Thanks for the idea. I'm always looking for ways to get more fruit into my diet and find something other than my usual oatmeal (or more often, nothing) for breakfast.

Julia, I forgot to mention that you can use different berries in the syrup too...so you could recreate the Village Inn experience. lol

Oh I also wanted to say thanks for the strawberry sauce recipe because I hate maple syrup so I'm always looking for alternatives. Another story from ancient times: we frequented a breakfast place called the Village Inn and I loved it because they had containers of brightly colored fruit flavored syrup in addition to maple. I always ordered the dollar pancakes and put a different flavor on each. Every night before he goes to sleep, my son wants me to tell him a story from when I was little. When I protest that I can't think of a new one, he says "tell me the pancake story" and that's the one he means. Talk about cheap entertainment!
