Food Waste Photo-7/5

Dry cilantro in a mug.
This wasn’t my best week ever regarding the food waste. Sigh.

I wasted two partial bags of cilantro (why, oh, why can you not just buy the amount you need??), a few pieces of pizza, a bit of salad, some cream (that was stupid…raw cream from the farm is worth a lot!), some grape tomatoes, half a lemon, and a bit of Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp.

I’ve been wasting entirely too much cream lately…I skim it off, have fabulous plans for it, and never execute. So, this week I skimmed it off, and two days later I made some Cinnamon Swirl Cream Biscuits from Cooks Illustrated’s website. Yay me!

I have a teeny bit left which I will throw into a smoothie at lunch time.

On the other hand, I had some successes this week. I used part of a large can of diced tomatoes to make some Shrimp Pizzas, which left me with a large portion.

However, I used them to make some tomato sauce for a deep dish pizza, so they’re not going to mold in my fridge.

Also, I had one egg white sitting in my fridge and I used that to make some frosting for the cinnamon biscuits.

And lastly, I dropped an egg earlier in the week, but I scooped it up and saved it. Yesterday when I was making hamburger buns, I actually remembered that the egg was in a bowl in the fridge, and I used it in the dough.

So, I’m not a complete and utter failure. =P

I LOVE your blog and I am going through and reading it from the beginning! You said you have a lot of cream. My mom used to freeze the cream we got off fresh milk and it was fine to use later. Just an FYI....
